You poor thing. That's got to be scary. The only bit of comfort I can give you is that $3000 is not that much. Jail time will depend on the court, but he would be in much worse trouble if it were $30,000. All you can do now is be supportive to the rest of your family and try to figure out ways to save money while the household income is cut down. You can only hope he has learned his lesson, but one thing you can do for sure - and that is take this lesson with you during your life and don't make the same mistake. It just isn't worth it!

Embezzlement is stealing money from your employer, jail time depends upon how much money was actually taken.
$3000 is not much, if he has no history he may be able to plead out and get a fine with probation, however that good job he once had will definitely be no more.

there is no longer sufficient information on your question to respond to it. i ought to comprehend in what united states of america and state/area your better half's mom became into charged, from whom she allegedly embezzled, what the October 18 listening to is for, and maximum heavily, the data in the case. in many jurisdictions, embezzling even a small quantity of money is a misdemeanor punishable with the aid of criminal fines and penitentiary time. Any sentencing choose could think approximately your better half's mom's historic past, inclusive of whether she has ever been convicted of against the regulation previously, the result that penitentiary could have on your loved ones, etc. solid success.

Embezzlement is a crime of theft. It is when you take property that is not yours, but you are holding for someone else legally.
Example, an employee is allowed to handle his employer's money. But when the employee takes it for his own use, that is embezzlement
Depending on how much was taken, the crime is probably a felony, punishable by jail time
