To add, my teacher said that they might hit the Earth and we can see them and if we stand underneath one they'll hit us in the head.

You don't have to wait till 2030 to see a meteor shower. Periodic comets that swing past the earth, like Halley's Comet, once every 76 years, leave a lot of debris in their wake as they do so. The earth encounters that debris, every time it reaches the same point in its orbit around the Sun, once a year. The comet has long since gone but its debris remains strewn across our path.
The debris is a very fine kind of sand particles that when they enter the earth's atmosphere produce what we experience as a meteor shower: i.e. very frequent trails of fashing lights across the sky, for a few days. possibly a few weeks. Every meteor shower is associated with a particular comet whose debris we encounter annually.
The largest annual meteor shower and the most impressive is the Perseids. They are about to occur, starting on Tuesday, so keep an eye on the constellation of Perseus in the coming weeks.
An article in Wikipedia states: "The Perseids are a prolific meteor shower associated with the comet Swift-Tuttle. The Perseids are called so because the point they appear to be coming from, called the radiant, is in the constellation of Perseus. However, they can be spotted all around the sky. Because of the positioning of Swift-Tuttle's orbit, Perseids are mostly visible in the northern hemisphere.
The shower is visible from mid-July each year, but the bulk of its activity falls between August 8 and 14 with a peak on August 12. During the peak, rates of a hundred or more meteors per hour can be registered.
Meteor showers can be seen when Earth moves through a meteor stream. The stream in this case is called the Perseid cloud and it stretches along the orbit of the Comet Swift-Tuttle. The cloud is composed of particles ejected by the comet as it passed by the Sun. Most of the dust in the cloud today is approximately a thousand years old.
The famous Perseid meteor shower has been observed for about 2000 years, with the first known information on these meteors coming from the far east."
OTHER UPCOMING METEOR SHOWERS
South Delta Aquarids Jul 12-Aug 19 peaking on Jul 28
Orionids Oct 2-Nov 7 peaking on Oct 21
Leonids Nov 14-Nov 21 peaking on Nov 17
Geminids Dec 7-Dec 17 peaking on Dec 14
Ursids Dec 17-Dec 26 peaking on Dec 22
For a complete list of meteor showers, see the second and third links
THE LEONIDS
The Leonids are famous because their meteor showers, or storms, can be, and have been in a few cases, among the most spectacular. Because of the superlative storm of 1833 and the recent developments in scientific thought the Leonids have had a major effect on the development of the scientific study of meteors which had previously been thought to be atmospheric phenomena.
The meteor storm of 1833 was of truly superlative strength. One estimate is over one hundred thousand meteors an hour, but another, done as the storm abated, estimated in excess of two hundred thousand meteors an hour over the entire region of North America east of the Rocky Mountains. It was marked by the Native Americans, slaves and owners, and many others. It was, in a word, unignorable. Many thought it was the end of the world.
Other great Leonid storms were seen in 1866 and 1867. When the storms failed to return in 1899, it was generally thought that the dust had moved on and storms were a thing of the past. Then, in 1966 a spectacular storm was seen over the Americas. Leading up to the 1998 return, an airborne observing campaign was organized to mobilize modern observing techniques by Peter Jenniskens at NASA Ames Research Center. This resulted in spectacular footage from the 1999, 2001 and 2002 storms.

You're confusing a few concepts.
Meteors fall on the earth every day and night. They're usually about the size of a peanut. They almost always burn up before they hit the ground. If you've ever seen a "shooting star," that was a meteor.
A meteor SHOWER is just a time (lasting 2 or 3 days) when there's an uncommonly high number of meteors in the sky. There are certain places in space where there are swarms of little rocks, and as the earth swings by in its orbit around the sun, it occasionally runs into one of those swarms. Every year, the earth will come around to the same spot and hit the same swarm again; so you can predict that a meteor shower will occur at the same time every year.
There are LOTS of such swarms, which means there are lots (dozens) of annual meteor showers. There's a particularly good one about the middle of (every) August.
The thing that's happening in 2030 is not a meteor--it's an asteroid. There's a big, big difference. While a meteor can fit in your hand, a typical asteroid can range from the size of a football field to many miles across.
The 2030 asteroid is probably the one called "2000 SG 344". It's relatively small for an asteroid (seems to be only about 100 feet across), but that would still do a tremendous amount of damage if it were to hit the earth.
When scientists first discovered it, they thought there might be a (small) chance that it would hit the earth in 2030. After they took some more measurements, they decided that it would not. For more about that, see the article at: http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/solarsystem/asteroid_2030up_001104.html

There will be a meteor shower in about three weeks - August 10 or so. These last only a night or two as the earth passes through an orbiting (around the Sun) meteor belt. Following that there will be one in November for the next reason.
Go to the web and search for meteor showers and you can get the specific dates, best times for viewing (usually 3-5am), etc.

There are meteor showers at several times throughout each year. That year probably refers to a peak year when there will be a larger number of meteors per hour. The next shower should be the Perseids in August and the Leonids in November.

well if it hits you in the head then youd die or have a critical concution. and they would be very hot and on fire because if a meteor comes in to our orbit then it would be lucky to get past our atmosphere. and if it does then it it would have to be a huge meteor but then be a very small meteorite. and there could very well be a meteor shower in 2030. and when it does we'd all have to be under a very very VERY strong roof. i heard once, a meteorite struck a home with the family inside. they were fortunatly unharmed. but if it does shower meteorites than youd have to be super protected.

There are a couple meteor showers every year. The have names (like the Leonids), based on the constellation they appear in. The best time to view a meteor shower is after midnight STANDARD time, regardless of time zone.

the only maximum dangerous theory that Democrats have unfold is that the election technique interior the U. S. is rigged, crammed with fraud and that individuals are via hook or via criminal disenfranchised. they have principally unfold this notion in black communities via publicizing a million-800-mobile numbers to call on primary and election days to rfile issues of balloting. individuals are patently reporting long lines as being a plot to deprive them of their spectacular to vote!!! Hell, in some international locations persons watch for hours to sport this helpful spectacular. This quite took off in Florida after the 2000 election and the parable despite the fact that is being pushed that the election replaced into "stolen" in Florida via ability of Jeb Bush and the GOP. there replaced into now no longer a single CASE that was once prosecuted or a single civil case presented and the legal expert effortless in Florida replaced into as quickly as a DEMOCRAT. Even the Democratic-controlled US Civil top fee replaced into no longer able to locate any onstances the placement blacks or others have been deprived of their rights to vote in Florida or everywhere else however the Democrats have persisted to unfold this LIE. They tried to do the comparable ingredient in 2004 with the outcomes of the OHIO election and the outcomes of independent investigations confirmed that the lawsuits have been specious. The Democrats went so a techniques as to ascertain out to stop the counting of the Electoral Vote interior the Congress. The allegations of voter fraud or disenfrachisement have been LIES. The Republican winner of a Florida Congressional seat in 2006 maintains to be being challenged via the DEMOCRATIC LOSER. The courts threw the case out and the GOP Congressman replaced into as quickly as seated almost 2 years in the past in spite of the undeniable fact that the Democrat maintains to project the outcomes of the election and the Democratic-controlled Congress continues to be to be spectacular the undertaking with the objective to overturn the outcomes of the election. those lies have undermined the final public believe interior the yank election technique. hundreds of thousands of adult males and females people now don't have faith that their vote would count number and counted quite, that the result will in all possibility be tallied truly and that the result will count. we've the Democrats to thank.

You really need to WAKE up in class.
There are meteor showers just about every freakin' month, girl.
Now, I happen to know a little something about Near-Earth Objects, but if I go telling you anything about that, you're very likely to get it all wrong and go around saying that you heard "somewhere" that the Earth was going to get splattered by a meteor or something like that. So, I'm going to have to abstain from contributing to your whack mode.

Meteor showers happen 24/7. You dont see them because the meteors burn up in the atmosphere before you can see them........some do survive.......but its very rare. and you have to be in a specific place to see them.........
