I get my wireless internet connection from the college I attend. My dorms are right across the street, but all of the interference causes my internet to disconnect several times an hour. As you can imagine this is quite frustrating. I heard that there was a device that I can buy to act as an antenna so that I can pick up better signals? Is this an actual product? If so where can I buy it?

You can always buy a better antenna for your computer. Your wireless card comes with its own generic antenna which works a little bit better than if you use nothing. You can go to any computer store and pick-up a more sophisticated one. All the major brands make them, such as: D-Link, Netgear, Belkin...etc. They are interchangeable but it is probably best if you stick with the same manufacturer as the wireless card. It will cost you $30-50. Try to buy an unidirectional antenna with an extension cord.

Maybe a router. I honestly don't know but in my house i have the wireless device in the basement and it doesn't reach all the way to the top floor so on the ground floor i have a router which takes the signal from the wireless device and sends it to the top floor. Right now my connection quality is "excellent"

You should get a new antenna which has the RangeBoost or High Frequency. I guess that you should probably buy the G wireless card which has the RangeBoost from Linksys. Or you can buy the latest N wireless card. It depends on your router. If Its a G router, then you have to have a G wireless card.

you could spend money for extenders, but...
try

makezine.com
or
instructables.com

for some easy do-it-yourself stuff to help you.
Some simple aluminum foil will help to extend the range, but these sites will tell you HOW to do it.

I used a wire strainer (like one of the suggestions) and I pick up signals from over 1/2 mile away!
