I have AT&T Yahoo DSL.
I have my gray cord from the phone jack plugged straight into the modem. I was told not to run it through the surge protector, So what happens when it storms?

The surge protector doesnt change anything. ATT may have told you not to plug it in through the surge protector, as it may degrade your dsl signal strength, but nowhere near enough for you to notice.
You should be just fine using it. Just make sure run the cable to the surge protector first, then out to the DSL and/or phone.

I am not too sure that you want to plug a DSL line into the Phone Jack of a Surge Protector. My reason for saying this is the fact that the Phone Jack of a Surge Protector is just that, " a normal Phone Jack " . Under normal conditions, do you actually plug your DSL connection to a regular Phone Jack ? I do not think so, because you have something called a ' Filter ' (about 3 or 4 of them are provided in the DSL Modem Box ) that you would connect between your regular Phone and the DSL Line. Now, I do not think that the Phone Jack of the Surge Protector is built, in such a way that it would not require any ' Filter ' to be installed between it and the DSL Line. I think you should install a filter between your DSL line and the Surge Protector. This is just to be on the safe side. It surely wont harm you.

sure you can, run the phone cord to the protector, then to the filter, that way it saves your filter too. It's not going to change anything

It is ADSL and if it is working fine leave it. You would not fix somthing that is working it will make somethig not work. When i put my phone on my surge proteret it made funnie sounds and for no reason. so if your internet works fine dont move it.
