no you weren't wrong, she was and is, if she is going to have a pet she must take responsibility for it and rather than chew you out she should have been grateful that you gave her supposed loved pet water....next time call the humane society maybe her dog being in a better home and her with a large fine will make her think differently....kudos to you and your daughter for helping the poor wee thing

You really not wrong for helping the dog out.
Unfortunately, you shouldn't have fed the dog in their yard. Water is fine.
What I would have done is left a note on the door or somewhere you know she goes into and tell her that her dog came over today for the first time looking for water and shelter.
You meant well. But, it may be on a special diet, and I really can't see two days of feeding a different food would really do any harm.
Just let it go for now, apologize for feeding it, and let her know that you were very concern because she left this pooch out without water, food or shelter and he could get heat stroke.
She can take it for what it's worth and realize that she did something horrible, or maybe she is just that ignorant not to notice.
If it happens again and you see the dog without water or shelter, I would call the local animal control.

Keep an eye on the dog. If it continues to be left in the yard with no water or shade, call animal control and explain to them what has happened. Every day you see the dog in the yard for more than 30 minutes with no water or shade, call animal control. I can understand a dog being on a special diet. Depending on the problem, anything different can cause life-threatening medical problems. There is NO reason to leave a pet, healthy or not, in a yard with no water or shelter. The owner needs to be educated and animal control will hopefully do their best to do so or they will take the dog away.

You are definitaley not wrong. It sounds to me that they are not caring for the dog. If I was you I would keep a journal for a couple days on how the dog is treated, how often the dog is out of food and water, the condtion of the dog and then I would call animal control and if you don't have animal control I would call the cops. If this has gone on awhile already then I wouldn't wait long and yes when the lady is gone I would feed and water the dog and keep that written in your journal as well.

I don't think that you were wrong at all.
In the future, though, if you see a dog tied out with no water, it is essential that you call Animal Control. It's cruel and inhumane, and heat stroke is a big risk.
It's your responsibility (and everyone else's) to report these things, and Animal Control's responsibility to handle the matter accordingly.
As for the situation right now, I think you should just ignore your neighbor and not worry about her. She's clearly not a person you want to associate with. Just report her if you see the dog tied out without water again.

Wow, sticky one... I would say she is wrong cause her dog isn't contained in her yard properly. The dog should not be able to get into your yard..
Regardless whether or not her dog had food / water the dog still wasn't properly contained. Her fault for it being able to get to your house..
But then you have the fact that you brought over food and water, trespassed into her yard..
I say that one cancels out the other and you are both even.. Get the fence fixed, and if the dog is running again, call animal control.. They won't feed her dog a special diet either, and she can complain to them that the dog has special needs.. While they are telling her that her dog should have been kept safely in her yard..

I'm sorry, but you've already spoken to these idiots with their uncontrolled dogs and they obviously haven't got the message. So now is the time to call the authorities on them I'm afraid. This can be done anonymously much as I imagine they will work out who has done this. But they've had fair warning, and if their dogs are injuring your dogs, that's where it would end, for me. You might consider putting extra wire at the lower part of your metal gate - chicken wire perhaps, to stop them from being about to get nose-to-nose contact, but that hardly solves the total problem does it. If you can't get through to them, surely the authorities, the police, will!! What a nightmare for you. ps I guess if you can, you could catch their dogs everytime they get out, and knock on their door to hand them back - saying your dogs are out - again!! Alternatively you could catch them, and hand them into your local Shelter. If they have to pay to get them back, that might make them think twice?

If you want to be on good terms with the neighbor, ask her next time to leave you some of the dog food, and you'll be glad to feed the animal when she's gone.
If you aren't worried about what the old biddy thinks, document what you did. Take pictures of the dog out in the heat next time it happens. If anything happens to the dog, you will have proof of your claims, and she can be charged with animal cruelty.

You probably weren't wrong for doing that. If the living conditions were that hot, and no water, you had a right. She should have been more understanding, especially since that can be considered animal cruelty the way she had that dog.

Her. The next time it happens, call the dog warden. Let her jump his butt when he finds the dog without food and water.
