George Bush claims that Ieaving Iraq would allow the terrorists to attack the USA. He also claimed that the terrorists were able to attack the USA and kill 3000 people. Well, don't you think that if we had control of our borders instead of the drug cartels and the coyotes that 9/11 would have been much more difficult to pull off -- if not next to impossible? When will George W. Bush put the blame for 9/11/01 where it really belongs -- squarely on the U.S. Government and its failed policies and its failure to enforce the laws that it passed?

I believe that several of the 9/11 terrorists came from the Northern Border and of the 19 only a small number of them came here legally. Failure to ensure that our "secrets" and our citizens' identities are safe and used properly is probably one of the most dangerous government failures. To have our personal information being utilized by people in Manilla, the Phillippines and ensuring that they would have all the right answers to steal identities from people who are employed in secure positions or sensitive positions is just one more huge threat and one more huge way for terrorists to gain access to places where they could do major harm. What about these road crews that are working on our roads? More foreign nationals (illegal aliens) are being hired for these jobs and now we find out that the terrorists are making bombs that look like curbs. How hard would it be for them to plant these bombs on our roads and then detonate whenever they decide it would benefit them?

The government was aware that several of the 911 hijackers had overstayed their visas. So, if they would have been enforcing the law, these terrorists would not have been here.

Well, I agree with much of what you say...except, those who carried out the 9/11 attack came into this country legally through major gateway airports - on visa's issued by the U.S. State Department. They didn't sneak across the borders. They weren't Mexican - they weren't brought here by "coyotes" or drug cartels.

Where our system failed - and STILL fails, is to have in place a way of tracking these people, making sure they show up for "work" or "school" or whatever reason the visa was issued for. We still have no way of enforcing visa limits. If it is a visa for 6 months or a year or more, we have NOTHING in place to track the visa holder down if he doesn't leave when the visa expires.

We have made a few improvements....I think it would be difficult today for someone to take flying lessons and only learn how to take off and not intersted in knowing how to land. I think most states have put in place certain requirements that would make it difficult for someone to obtain a drivers license or other I.D.

We have tightened up the airports somewhat - putting aside the ridiculous "search" of grannies in their wheel chairs and bottles full of breast milk..... But, we have done NOTHING to secure cargo, secure runways, secure our ports.

We have to face the fact that if someone wants to enter this country and do us ill - one way or the other, that person will get here. All we can hope to do is have in place a tight security with a system that keeps track of legally entering "terrorists".....

The human race has always been in jeopardy from those who prey among us. We can only resist to the point of human possibility.

Our terrorist threat doesn't come from our southern border, nor our northern border..the risks are too great for a nutcase to attempt entry by that means. Some might get through, many wouldn't try. It is our entry requirements, legal ones, that need checks and balances.

All of the individuals involved in 9/11 entered the US legally. They all had visas. The majority of people from Mexico that have a visa are not overstays. You don't need a visa to swim across the river or climb over a fence.

You are correct and that is exactly what the 9/11 commission found. But they didn't want to offend anyone so they called it a failure of imagination. It appears that government workers don't have to do their jobs and when they do they get sent to prison (border agents). When I see a politician admit failure I'll probably also see monkies fly out of my butt.

i agree with you. i put the blame on the incomptence of those in charge of observing the activities of those who turned out to be terrorists. how did it pass their notice that they were taking lessons in flying planes ,t while they were meeting and organizing their attacks ?why didnt they watch the airports and the travellers ? why did they ignore alerts that came from european sources such as germany that gave them names of terrorists ?what were they waiting for. i hold the american government /whoever was responsible for the death of thousands in the 9/11 attack. it was like children's play for the terrorists to do what they did. can anyone in the government explain why the european alert wasnt taken seriously ?

Probably, because several of them were here legally and they would have found enough legal volunteers to do it anyway. The question is why were they allowed here in the first place?

Just because they came "legally", doesn't mean they stayed legally. It doesn't automatically give them a free pass to stay longer than their visa's let them. So YES.

We just need to close the damn border

This should be our countries #1 priority.

President Bush AND Congress have failed miserably on this issue.
