I don't watch the news much.. but there was a Conair 5191 flight in Lexington, KY (since I live there.. I figured I'd at least see what's up). So weeks after and during.. they are sitting there analyzing why this this and this.. I thought the media's job was to report the news and let us decide for ourselves things like that?

News always involve analysis. Analysis is given to give viewers all the sides of the story. Editorials are also based on analysis. You can't give an editorial if you didn't see all sides.

There has been analysis and commentary in the news forever. Here's the catch: It should always be labeled as such.

Analysis usually is good, it can help the reader/listener learn about the situation. You don't want that to creep into news stories though. And you'd be surprised how many people don't read the word "analysis" or "commentary," or who don't know that columnists write opinions.

They have been doing that for a long time, especially on slow news days, they will spend hours analyzing something.
