I'm always careful with the way I word is as well! I have had a few people mistake daughter for a boy when she was a baby, and my first son was ALWAYS being mistaken for a girl, even though he would be dressed in boy's clothing. He had these big sparkly brown eyes and maybe that had something to do with it. It never did bother me, but I don't know how other parents would feel about it, so I am always careful! I never assume what sex the baby is until the parent says something, or unless the baby is in a dress and it is obvious. :)

no i have never told anyone that but someone has told my baby boy that he looks like a gilr because of his long hair and lashes! He was dresses in all blue and even gym shoes with socks! You should be able to look at the colors a baby is wearing and tell if its a boy or girl!No i never did it before but i paid attention to the colors that the baby is wearing!

I used to make this mistake. Now I double check for the blue/pink clue. If it isn't obvious I make the cute baby comment...by the way nobody seems to mind if you ask ahead of time.
My dad was a doctor, delivered 400 babies and he said he was never sure.

I'm with you on this one. I used to get so mad at people when they saw my little brother with his long, blonde curls and said "isn't she gorgeous?". One person still said "she" even when he had on a shirt that said "I'm the man of the house"!
I love to coo at babies so I'll say "aww, how precious!" and play peek-a-boo with them. Every once in a while I'll ask their name just to be sure. I really hate it when it's one of those names that could go either way!

I do the same thing, "Oh what a beautiful baby" and hope the mom says something like "He's a good baby too" or "She looks just like her sister or dad or whatever".

No!... I would NEVER say the sex unless I knew for sure!
What amazes me is when people say, "your son looks so cute", but you have a girl and she is in all PINK!

Here's how I avoid that crappy situation:
I look , smile, tilt my head and say "Awww, how old?"
Then THE MOM responds " HE or SHE is ______ months"
Then I use the correct sec and say " Aww, he or she ..is beautiful!
