well it depends largely on what you want it for. if yoy want to lay rubber then MGTF but if you want a sensible middleman car then go for a 306

No contest 306 everytime the MG is made from the Rover parts bin, iI have yet to hear of one that hasn't had a warped head or blown the bottom end. My mates wife spent £1500 in 10 months on hers. The front suspension on the earlier ones (maybe later ones too) was from the front wheel drive Montego even though the MG is rear engine and drive. Any car which uses 20 year old components and components that were crap in there day anyway is going to be not worth bothering with.

The MGF after all is a 'Rover' so interior and exterior build quality were not their best. The K Series engine was OK and has lived on in other cars, Mark 1 Lotus Elise for one.
But I would go with the Peugeot 306 Cabriolet, it has a 2.0 petrol engine. Make sure that the power roof works first!!!!

MG can be ok, but you need a good mechanic who knows how to maintain the engine so it doesn't self destruct. It's not a DIY friendly car. Also remember that the MG is a 2 seat sports car, while the 306 is a 4 seat (well 2 + 2 halfs) convertible. Different animals!

I owned a yellow TF 135 for three years and admit I checked everything on a monthly basis( including water level) and the only time it visited a garage was for a service. It was fantastic fun and the only reason I sold it was because of the demise of MG. Suspension was hard but it was fun. The 306 is OK but it is not a sports car.

MG has a poor engine, rusts and breaks down. 306, looks sexy, rarely breaks down.
THE WINNER IS THE 306

306 is definately better looking. Not sure about performance of either so can't comment on that.
I'd say pug reliability would be superior too...
