easy answer, if your online, your not
keep your virus scanners up to date and avoid the typical retard mistakes (i.e., opening dumb emails)
hard to prevent viruses, but you can fix them easy enough

and about hacking, bottom line is if someone wants something off your computer, they are going to get it
im not talking about the 16 year old myspace kid that can steal someone elses script that he has no clue how to run properly kinda hacker. there are people that if they want somethin from you, they're gunna get it, and you wont know about it

typically its just the myspace teenbopper that does malicious things

Actually a good hacker can penetrate through any network system,.. (there's nothing you can do about this)

Spy-wares are often activated by users un-awardly , throughout installing free software and programs. (always read and check anything before installing)

Viruses could be avoided if you stay away from pornographic sites or warez such as free downloading (i.e,..torrrent sites)

Having a firewall throughout a router and a good anti viruses will surly reduce the risks of contamination.

Iv gone through 10 years and learning how to avoid viruses in my computer without the use of an anti-viruse programs. Simply by being careful of what I'm downloading and not opening anything that looks suspicious.

Good luck ;)

You can't know because the people that make viruses and spyware are buying the exact products that you're buying and they're working to get around that security.

All you can do is set it up as best as you can and keep your virus and spyware software up to date.

I think it's important to have two firewalls set up, one at the modem, and one on your computer and use both.

As much of a pain as always hitting, "yes, allow" it's not as bad as Format C.

The only really safe computer is one that's never had any outside software or files added or changed.

100% immunity from viruses and malware is easy... 100% security is not possible, even A1 rated high-assurance systems are vulnerable to covert channel attacks and whatnot.

Hell, my Windows 2000 desktop is immune to malware, without having to download or install anything. Proper use of internet zones in IE, combined with group policy restrictions and a simple file permission change can make IE immune to everything, and making your system immune is as simple as eliminating external services that you don't use, and having network software (AIM, Yahoo, whatever) run as a locked down user rather than your normal user account (Which should not under any circumstances be an administrator account).

Doing this will also give you more protection from hackers than installing a firewall ever could.

It took me less than half an hour to secure my system, without any firewall, antivirus, or other crapware.

I easily have heard maximum viruses are created to attempt and defeat Norton - This partly real in spite of the incontrovertible fact that there are virus available which will attack different antivirus courses. What some router? maximum routers comprise a build in hardware firewall this could be a plus to your secure practices. AVG? it truly is from AVG very own information superhighway website: AVG unfastened does not incorporate Anti-Rootkit secure practices so rootkits may well be hidden on your equipment. AVG unfastened does not incorporate the hot secure Downloads & on the spot Messaging secure practices (information superhighway safeguard technologies) so it does not demonstrate screen your downloads and communique for viruses and undercover agent ware. Any advice would be a great deal favored!! - upload human beings from right here to your contacts who recognize what there speaking approximately & digital mail them approximately approximately your secure practices & what you require, maximum will provide help to.

You can always test your security software to see if it is functioning properly. For example, you can test the effectiveness of your antivirus and firewall programs. If you don't already have either then it is a good time to get them. There are several free antivirus and firewall programs so there is no real good excuse not to have them. Go to www.filehippo.com and look under "Firewall" and "Antivirus" categories.

To test your antivirus program, use the free antivirus tester (http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,22360-order,1-page,1-c,antivirus/description.html)

To test your firewall, use the free website Gibson Research Corporation (https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2)

You have smoke detectors in your house not because you know a fire is going to happen, or because fires happen all the time, but as a warning for you when there is a fire.

Similarly buildings don't have fire escapes because they definitely know there will be a fire.

So the best thing to do is to have a few precautions in case something bad does happen, so that when it does you are ready.

You need a good firewall (not Windows firewall) a good anti-virus and an anti-spyware.
You must keep all current and updated.

And as important as the above, you must keep your Windows 100% updated with all critical and security patches from Windows Updates.

sorry to burst your bubble. you can't be 100% protected from viruses and spyware. but you can use common sense by using antivirus program 2 -3 antispyware, mallware programs. don't download from qustionable sites, and/or people you don't know.

media hype about hackers is just plain FUD- fear of unknown and doubt. please don't fail into that trap
