Yes, he should. But you're presenting this question about Islamic extremist to people on a forum who give thumbs up to "I don't seem to recall much terror BEFORE bush"...
I never realized how young (or truly delusional) the people on this forum were until now.

Absolutely.
Whatever he has or hasn't done right or wrong, there have been no successful terror attacks on US soil since the post 911 anthrax jobs. But just this morning on the news I heard antiterrorism officals claim that al queda has returned to pre 911 strength in Pakistan. And if their next hit within the USA borders occurs before Bush leaves office, he will have no excuse this time. So if Bush wants to worry about his legacy, he needs to make darn sure nothing happens until Hillary takes over and redirects all of the domestic anti terrorism spying to keep track of her own political enemies. Hillary for her part will then withdraw diplomatic recognition of Taiwan and turn their embassy in DC over to al Queda. And will then be fitted with a designer burka in time for Osama's first courtesy visit to the White House.

not even vaguely.
the singular attack that's happened on our soil since he's been President, he failed spectacularly at preventing, in spite of specific warnings... and in spite of the fact that they keep "proving" they can thwart terror left and right by busting up all of these "terror plots" going on.
and if you mean American INTERESTS, well, he's batting .000 there too. there's never been a time in world history when there were more terror attacks going on, and the majority of them are being directed at our soldiers.
credit? Bush deserves a prison cell next to Shooter and Rummy.

"Does Bush deserve some credit for keeping America terror free the last 6 years?"
The problem with this question is that you assume as fact that Bush "keep America terror free". therefore a yes or no is meaningless since both of them agree with hidden permise. have you stopped beating your wife? yes or no?

no. the FBI and CIA deserve credit, if at all.
Al Qaida strikes when we let our guard down. They hit us and go into sleep mode for a while.
Why are there reports out today that Al Qaida is as strong as ever and settling in Pakistan? Where is bin Laden?

Lots of people I know are "terrified" of the U.S. govt, CIA, etc. knowing everything about their lives, about being searched in airports, about invasion of privacy, about torture done by US govt. in detention centers. Are we really free of terror?
Mr. Bush gets credit for some things, but I'm not sure freedom from terror is one of them.

What do you mean "terror-free"? Why, they just raised the level of terror to "orange" yesterday! Seriously, this administration has made a policy of sustained terror (keeps the peasants in line).
And as for North Korea, Bush has condoned a policy of appeasement (called "humanitarian aid") for Kim Jung Il's regime, while doing little to curb their militarism, nuclear program or despotism. The tiny success of IAEA limited inspections is insignificant.
But thanks for asking.

bush has no credit for stopping anything terror related. Bin Laudin has done a great job in the past 6 years on us. how many people have died in Afghanistan and Iraqi? How much have we spent on war and homeland security? Bush has done nothing but make more terrorist and had them go after our allies and ties.
