I've been doing a LOT of commuting on my motorcycle around Boston recently, and here are the things that have been driving me crazy:

1. other bikers who don't think the rules of the road apply to them (I HATE when they ride up the line between stopped traffic, I'm waiting for one of these grumpy Boston drivers to see them coming in the rearview and open his door...not that I want that, but it just seems like a matter of time)

2. The insane number of SUVs on the road. I can't see over them or around them and there are so many that I'm frequently boxed in by them with no visibility.

3. I know this will raise a debate, but... states without helmet laws. I know everyone has their opinions, but the sight of a person's head literally busted all over the pavement stays with you.

4. (for similar reasons) bikers in shorts, flipflops, shirtless, etc. Honestly guys, FLIP FLOPS? If you had to put your foot down fast, you'd have no foot left!

What is your list? (no non-riders please)

Here's my list in no particular order.

Bad roads. Good lord I pay enough in taxes that every inch of road in this stupid state should be paved at least well enough so I am not risking death by hitting pot holes and heaved up sections of blacktop.

Dog owners. Please put your dog on a leash if it chases traffic! I really don't want to run over your dog for two obvious reasons.

People driving 40mph and when you pass them they speed up and try and rear end you. I've had this happen so many times I can't count them.

Bike clubs that ride in a long line on winding country roads. If you are going to be sightseeing then break up your group. It's dangerous to pass 50 bikes in a row.

Cars. Ban them all.

Deer. Ban them all.

SUV's and those big freaking pick-ups. Ban them all.

Dump trucks without secured loads. How would you like me to follow you home and throw rocks at you?

Log trucks without secured loads. Yeah, I'm sure when that log rolls off onto the road it won't hurt me a bit. I should take it home, turn it down on the lathe until it's a bat and beat you with it.

Birds and bees. Ouch and ouch!

That's my list for now. I'm sure I'll think of more later.

Loud exhausts on any bike but particularly straight through pipes on Harley's. Too loud and it's not as if it is for gain in performance, it must be some sort of attention deficit disorder those guys have. Aggressive car drivers (and riders) driving far too fast in built up areas. There are plenty of quiet roads you can do that on and kill yourself without making too much of a fuss. In defense of riding without a helmet or the correct gear. I have spent a lot of time riding through Asia and have nothing but happy memories of going big runs wearing my shorts, shades and flip flops. Not every day but every now and again. I don't think I am stupid for doing it though. I know what could happen and while I adjust my riding accordingly I know that I could still get wiped out. My choice to do that and my choice to accept if I do I may have to live with the consequences. Isn't that freedom of choice a huge part of what riding motorcycles is all about?

Well, what you have stated is just part of the motorcycle package. My BIGGEST PET PEEVE is not having enough time or money (especially at the same time!) to just keep on riding.
... My dad was almost wiped out in Boston! we had just left the Cape Cod area and pulled out on the road when a car took a left right in front of my dad, and I almost hit the car and I was behind him! He did one heck of a street dance with that Suzuki! He was a great rider tho and saved it! ... I feel for you riding in Boston! .. Be safe and happy cycling!

I just read Cafe Tbird's yanswer, I agree the the T-Bird, but, Im an eagle tonight anyway!

What anyone else wears when riding is none of my business, weather I think it's stupid or not. Neither is what anyone else drives. I do however hate drivers who have no regard to my rights. people who never "see" bikers. I've read a bunch of these answers now and I can't believe a lot of them. Why do you people have so much against other bikers? Bikes will probably be legislated off the road soon because people are so divided over someones else's personal choice of bike or helmet or clothing. The people on 4 wheels are our enemy not each other!! Also, no ones vehicle, suv or whatever should be banned. Bad drivers should be banned!!

1. People in a T-shirt, shorts, loafers and a full face helmet. Why wear the helmet?

2. I realize I'm smaller than a car, but I can't stand when drivers don't even BOTHER to check their mirrors before pulling into me! Especially the ones next to my 8000 RPM spewing pipe with their windows open that STILL don't know I'm there!

3. A literbike with chicken strips wider than my hand, usually ridden by the people in #1

4. Sudden changes in surface, like fresh chip-seal or grooved pavement. In Colorado, the DOT likes to spray fresh lines on the road and cover them with SMALL REFLECTIVE BEADS that they don't sweep up afterwards. I almost lowsided on that crap!

5. "100% waterproof" clothing that isn't.

6. Dealerships like G-Force Motorsports in Lakewood that don't fully honor the prepaid service contract I have if it's not "convenient" for them. (Take that, douchebags!)

7. Riders that actually believe that "Loud Pipes Save Lives" load of B.S. and don't wear proper gear.

Cagers who disregard the safety and lives of motorcyclists and people who want Big Brother to interfere in the lives of riders.

Flanders should know that you have to fight lawmakers constantly because they are never satisfied with just a little control. "The price of liberty is eternal vigilance". I wear a helmet every time but I'm against helmet laws.

I don't get ticked off. It just drains off all the positive energy that I gain from riding. One of the best bits of advice I ever received about iron butt riding is to not let yourself get bent out of shape over the stupid little things that happen on the road. It just sucks off your energy. Exhausting. Lighten up and you will enjoy riding, and life more.

So what if the Harley rider doesn't wave at you, or if the woman on the cell phone doesn't know you are there, or if the car in front of you squirts washer fluid? There is nothing you can do about it... so stop wasting your energy griping about it. Focus it on driving more defensively and being prepared.

1) The helmet thing bothers me, in a different way. I live in a state that does not require helmet (IL) and I always get solicitation asking me to donate money to motorcycle organazations so that they can 'fight the proposed laws that will require helmets'. As riders, don't we have better things to spend our money on?

2) It bothers me when people are travelling together and are either riding right behind each other (back tire to front tire) or are right next to each other in a lane. Doing this guarantees that if one of them loses it, more than one bike is going down.

3) Crotch rockets that do wheelies on the highways at 50+ mph. Dangerous to everyone and I see it entirely too often.

Happy riding!

I don't really have any pet peeves or any peeves at all. Quite a number of years ago, a quite older gentleman hobbled over to me as I was securing my gym bag to the back of my bike. He said, "Little lady, I'm a'gonna tell you something. Ride that bike like you are invisible. You are always invisible. You'll be riding safer and a very long time." Then he proceeded to get on his Harley hog and off he went.

His words have saved my life more than once and over the years it has become second nature to "ride like I'm invisible." Any kind of irritation is headed off before it starts since I'm so very aware of my surroundings. I started riding when I was 21. I'm now 55 and still invisible.

Non attentive people:

1. My pet peeve would have to be young teenagers driving there cars recklessly and do not pay attention to anyone else that is on the road. They often turn corners at high speeds all while cutting you off.

2. The Business Man driving to work in the morning reading the paper, on the cell phone, typing on his PDA, all while taking a sip of coffee. This type of individual also does not pay attention to his surrounding.

3. The typical Woman driving in the morning. They are often applying make-up, on the cell phone, smacking her kids that are seated behind her, and not paying attention to anyone on the freeway or street.

4. I can't forget about old people driving...I think that is self explanatory.
