I say yes for sure. The movies back in the day were made good for that generation but now with technology that we have today they can and I think should be re-done just as long as they stand as true to the original as possible. Look at the new "War of the Worlds." I liked the old one but I think the new one was awesome and well done. It did hold true in many ways to the original with a few small changes but those were good changes. The word sci-fi means that in time they should be remade in time. There are a few horror movies that should also be remade but never, and I mean never try to redo any Alfred Hitchcock, he is the master and those types shouldn't be attempted at all.

Unfortunately, they almost always mess up remakes. The problem is that movies popular enough for a studio to consider remaking them, were usually pretty well done in the first place. One exception is the TV series Battlestar Galactica- the new version is brilliant, a GREAT Sci-Fi show.
Too often, remakes have better special effects but the acting & direction- the basic storytelling sucks compared to the original.
This sometimes happens in sequels too- they assume more is better and overdose on useless FX. For example the original lightsaber battle between Obi-Wan and Darth Vader back in 1977- the fight was much more tense and dramatic even though the effects were simple compared to today.
The Obi-Wan/Annikan showdown in Episode III had molten lava flowing everywhere, hovering plaforms, heavy machinery - which just detracted from the mano-a-mano fight.
The original King Kong was primitive animation but Kong was special- a freaking giant ape that stood out like a sore thumb! In the remake, everything was super-gigantic so the impact of Kong himself was lessened. The scenes with the giant parasictic bugs and running from T-Rexes were more frightening, which should NEVER happen.
And the horror films!! No, I'm talking talking about bad remakes like 13 Ghosts, Amityville Horror, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Pyscho etc- I'm thinking of those Sci-Fi channel original movies that appear on Saturday nights now... Those are SOOOOO bad it's scary...

you have an stunning checklist & it is extraordinarily no longer undemanding to ideal it yet i visit attempt a pair of titles which you're able to of over appeared. the ingredient (1982) The make up outcomes in this action picture speaks for it self Tron (1982) yet another gem interior the eighty's that deserve a thumbs up with its visuals. conflict of the Worlds (1953) This action picture replaced into earlier than its time & triumphing an Oscar for particular outcomes replaced into the icing on the cake Blade Runner (1982) i can under no circumstances provide up observing this Sci-fi classic ,as a results of its brilliance and jaw dropping seen outcomes that made Blade Runner between the final Sci-fi videos ever. Legend (1985) Ridley Scott truly out did him self with this action picture & to work out tim curry convey to existence the character "The Darkness" is a few ingredient to behold continually. 2001: an area Odyssey (1968) If this action picture isn't reported in any Sci - Fi disscusion then you truly dont recognize Sci-Fi.

Many many sci-fi and horror movies from years ago are being re-made today (and in recent past years) and honestly, nothing compares to the originals. With few exceptions.

i can think of only 2 that should be
TRON
and
V
both actually came out around the same time
and both are being looked at for sequel and remake
in fact V 2: the Second Generation will hit book stands this fall and tv possible next year.
TRON 2.0 is all ready a video game, but the original creator is working on a remake and a sequel.

Yes, and no. Some of the originals are classic, and shouldn't even be messed with. Others might be worhtwhile. Battlefield Earth for example, was a movie that had so much potential from it's original storyline, but totally blew, because some lame-o in Hollywood butchered it. I'd hate to see that happen to a really good classic.

Yeah that would be nice to see happen like DR. WHO movies or other old ones. The one thing I like about the older movies are the cheezy sound effects and the graphics. Some of the ideas for the older movies were great but tech has come along way in the past many yrs. Some of the older movies are to predictable. It would be nice but some movies are to classic to be changing.

Yes and NO - you can't say "all" or "none" should or should not be made.
There are many films that are truly a classic and it is NOT about special effects so they should be left alone.
ANYONE who does a remake of "Plan 9 from outer space" will be considered an enemy of the human race!

I believe it works sometimes. I prefer the 70's version of Invasion of the Bodysnatchers to the original, however I'm not so sure I'm going to like the new one with Kidman.
