I live in Michigan and hear all about Johnson helping the Lions this year but I'm not sure he is enough to help us win more than 6 games. I think it is going to be up to the offensive line. If they can give Kitna some time and we can establish a running game then I think we have a shot at maybe 8 or 9 wins. What do people think about the Lions outside of Michigan?

Only time will tell. Right now I don't consider them as being a huge threat. But who was considering New Orleans as a threat at this time last year? If that's your team, then stick with them. I've been pulling for the Saints for forty years and just now finally had something to brag about.

If the O-line is solid, then Detroit has nothing to fear on offense. Roy Williams and Kevin Jones should be able to help thier team play well. John Kitna will do well, now that he has been with the team for a full season.
The defense really needs to step it up a bit more. Unlike Oakland, the Detroit D was not a significant factor in the wins they produced last year. Don't get me wrong, they had good games, but they just were not dominating.
The division they are in with the Packers, Vikings, and Bears can best be forecast as the most competitive this season. Losing Thomas Jones is going to be a huge factor to Chicago. Dropping Tank, and not having Tommie Harris at 100% will also play a factor on the defense. Green Bay could go either way again this year. Favre is back, but there were no significant WR changes in the off-season. And Minnesota's RB depth could really take pressure off Tavarius, and help him to become a whole lot better.

But all in all, Detroit stands a chance of going to the playoffs only if they win the division. That could happen...

Yeah I'm originally from Michigan, now in Florida, but the Lions will always be my favorite team. As you know, being a Lions fan involves constant disappointment, but Calvin Johnson is an elite talent who will help a bit. I don't think we have to worry about him being a bust like Charles Rogers was. Anyway, I think Kitna's a little off with predicting at least 10 wins, but if we get a solid running game established I'm looking for a possible 7-8 win season. GO LIONS!!!

The Detroit Lions are not going to do anything this year. Yes, they did grab Calvin Johnson in this year's NFL draft, but that doesn't mean he will actually deliver. The Lions will still be the same old losers that we have come to love. Take a look at what they have done in recent NFL draft and that alone should tell you why the Lions have not prospered. Don't get me wrong, the Lions have gotten some very good playrers in the NFL draft, but not enough to make that jump to winning 8 to 9 games this year. Let's not get carried away with Calvin Johnson winning 6 more games for the Lions. Sorry, as long as the Detroit Lions have Matt Millen in their front office they continue to wallow in the basement of bad NFL teams.

I think CJ will help the Lions alot, but they will go as far as Kitna plays well. The running game will put some pressure off of him. But since the team has been bad for a couple years, like any other team they have to prove they can win before people start talking about them. I am a Steelers fan and feel the same about our team. We will go as far as Ben will take us. Hopefully we can get back to how we played 2 or 3 years ago. Good luck

i live in ohio but my family is in love with the lions,tigers,etc....
well i think the should go 7-9 just because thy r buildin up theire line. and i agree if ther line can give kitna some time he can actually make some plays.and yes if the line makes some holes for the running backs thy will tear up the run game.....but like i said i don't see them going 8-8 i say thy will win at least 7 game but who knows this could be the lions year.

I'm a HUGE Lions fan! And I agree with you. Receiving is not the problem with Detroit, so Johnson will be welcome, but will not be the difference-maker. That offensive line has sucked so badly for so long that I don't know what to think about it anymore. Until that line starts to work like an NFL line, rather than the second-rate college line it has been for the past decade, I don't see us winning more than 6 games if we are lucky. Defense needs to step it up, too. Can it happen? Sure! But I'm not going to Vegas with it.

I agree. I don't think they will be that good. Johnson is a huge upgrade but passing wasn't a problem last year. They still have a bad OL, very little running game, bad DB and overrated LB.

If all goes well and they avoid the injury problems I can see them winning 8 games at best. 5-6 is a pretty good guess on where they end up.

I think the Kitna could be right, i mean they picked up 2 more backs and they are all good at recieving, Roy Williams is one of the best in the game, and he´s finally getting recognized...
plus, Flurry and Johnson..

with Mike Martz.... callin the plays...

i´m tellin you these new lions could be scary..

hell, Kitna threw for +4000 yards last season... i like routing for the underdogs... lions are gonna be my saints this year.

I'm from Dallas and I love the lions young talent. Roy Williams and CJ are both Pro Bowl recievers who will be a nightmare for any defensive coordinater when they really learn the ins and outs of the offense. Stanton I hope turns out to be the starting QB, he was up and down in college alot but if he can keep composed he will be scarey good. Defense has good building blocks, Boss Bailey comes to mind. Overall next year you guys might have a few people with bags on their heads still but after that you will be contender for many years to come.

I think ther success depends on the line and the defense. if the line can give kitna some time he will have two great recievers to chose from. but also the defense has to step up too. watch for Jones to get a lot of yards off Draw plays and screens.
