ThenI got a really bad pain in my lower stomach that doubled me over. After that I bled heavy for about an hour. Then I just started spotting again for another day and I stopped. I took 3 pregnancy tests and they all came back negative. Could they have been wrong? How could I know? How far would I have to have been to really know?

Your best bet would be to get to an ob-gyn or mid-wife asap. For my first pregnancy I was only a week late and I did the same thing and then start to bleed, but stopped. After a few weeks they determined that I had been pregnant with fraternal twins and lost one but kept the other. i would say no sooner that the day of your missed period, but a week later is more accurate. (that would be about 3 weeks after conception, about 5 wks pregnant)
what you're describing, the bad cramping and heavy bleeding, actually sounds more like an early miscarriage.

take a test when your period doesnt come. a missed period s the first real clue your pregnant. the earliest to find out on a home test is 4 weeks which is 4 weeks since your last period

i wasn't due for my period for 3days this time and a week with #1 and 3 or 4 days with #2. but the boxes say at least be due to start that day or at least one day late which would put you being almost 4 weeks since LMP or 2 weeks post conception.

It sounds to me like you have an infection, not pregnancy. Bacterial infections can raise holy heck with our systems. You need to call and make an appt with your gyn to get some tests done, be sure to get a good check up and make sure your ok.
And no, not all woman CAN use an HPT...but this does not sound as though you are pregnant, you should NOT be doubled over in pain!

I was five weeks pregnant when the test worked--I believe it was an EPT test. I'd taken the same brand test about two weeks prior and it came up negative. Hope that helps!
