Well, no technician the the world can be of any help i suppose. May be it's just too late to retrieve!
A way to avoid this is to buy an external hard disk to store them and use them when you want! That's why never Shift + delete anything just in case you want it back from recycle bin, otherwise, Shift + Delete clears everything from your harddisk

relies upon on the shredder application... a generic 3 bypass with a shred command obtainable with any linux disc will honestly wipe each and everything, however the industry generic "Paranoid" shredding is 7 wipes (it is us protection tension paranosis btw) in case you like a rapid examine, get carry of testdisk, burn to a disk, and notice if anythings left... @Keljaden: Leftover bits are not recorded in layers, they're blurred and diminished... After 3 or 4 writes data capability fluctuates too lots to wager the development (the data is going "via" eachother, switching in place, basicly infinite possible outcomes)

Yes, its possible.
There are computer forensic companies that hire out to retrieve data from computers.
Mostly, they are used by law enforcement agencies.
Contact these people if the data is that important.

A year is probably to long. I would guess that all of these files have been overwritten and are no longer retrievable.

It's been a year huh?? chances are (very) slim recovering the files. (check out http://www.recoverdeletedfiles.net/)
If you have formatted the drive (after deletion), dont even try
