Greatest Common Factor

1,

36 = 2 x 2 x 3 x 3
45 = 3 x 3 x 5

GCF = 3 x 3 = 9

12 = 2 x 2 x 3
36 = 2 x 2 x 3 x 3

GCF = 2 x 3 = 6

split each of the numbers as multiples of smaller numbers (as small as possible). Then pick out the numbers which are common :
1) 36 = 2*2*3*3 ; 45 = 3*3*5
we see 3*3 is common in the above partitions. So GCF of 36 and 45 is 3*3 = 9

2) 18 = 2*3*3; 12 = 2*2*3; 36 = 2*2*3*3

GCF = 2*3 = 6

3) 20 = 2*2*5; 26 = 2*13; 24 = 2*2*2*3
GCF =2
