They just went out and got Toskala so you know he's going to be the favorite to win that starting goalie position. He is a very good goalie and not that Raycroft isn't a solid one himself, but Vesa is one of the best in the league when he gets in a groove. In 2006-07 he went 26-10-1, had a 2.35 GAA, and a .908 save percentage. He has a 65-28-10 career record and is still just 30 years old. He will be a good fit in Toronto. Tell Raycroft to get a nice pad for the bench and Clemenson (though I couldn't even find him on the roster) will either be on a new team by the start of the season or in the AHL.

I'd try to do something like Dave Dombroski did for the Tigers (I know it's a different sport but it works almost the same way). First, I'd go for a good veteran player who is also a good leader, something like a Brendan Shanahan but with a couple more years left than him. He would be able to help the team win and teach the younger guys. Next, I'd put a lot of focus on drafting. The mark of a good franchise in any sport is a top level team with guys that came through the system. I'm not sure how Toronto has drafted in the past but, this is just a guess, seeing how they've played in recent years it couldn't have been too good. At some point, there would be a surplus of young players, which is a good sign that you're drafting well. At that point, I would deal some players for a guy or two that could take us over the top and get the Leafs to the Cup. As for coaching, I'm not sure what I'd do with Maurice. He's had some good points but I'm not sure if the down points are him or a product of bad players. I'd probably keep him around for a bit to see if it was one or the other. If it's him, I'd fire him and hire someone who will win. If it's not him, then I keep him until he wants to leave.

I believe Toskala will get the bulk of the work. The Leafs may move Raycroft at some time because he is a UFA at the end of the year. Then they will call up Clemenson. Pogge is going to see the most action for the Marlies and the big cllub hopes he finally hits his stride this year.

I think it will be Toskala but you people are throwing Raycroft under the bus. He didnt have a horrible goals against average and he definately didn't have any kind of defense. The leafs were 25th in the league in goals allowed. Also, the leafs were 27th in the league in penalty killing. How does a goaltender have a chance with that kind of support? It's going to be Toskala but Raycroft was not horrible.

Toskala, no question. Raycroft would be a great backup goaltender, but he's way too inconsistent when he is starting. Clemenson is terrible. The problem with Raycroft is he con't make those game changing, unbeliveable saves. Many times, with the number of 1 goal games we've been having lately, can win the game for you. Toskala all the way.

They didn't gout and get Toskala for nothing, so for sure
he'll be the starting goalie.
Who'll be the back-up is the question ...
I think they'll trade Raycroft and keep Clemenson.

Definitely Toskala, barring injury. Raycroft sucks, and Clemmenson has never shown that he is anything more than a career backup goalie.

NJ got this one first including the background. Toskala will start and Raycroft is on the trade block to dump salary and clear cap room.
