The older dog is fine. He sniffs the cat and kitten then walks away and they don't hiss at him. The younger dog LOVES anything furry. He gets CRAZY HYPER when he sees them and whines, chases and barks at the newbies. Needless to say neither the cat or kitten are crazy about him. I KNOW he doesn't mean them harm ( I have seen him lick a pet mouse before without harming it) but how am I going to integrate them if I can't calm him down? Ideas would be most welcome!

Thanks!

The older dog is 13 and the younger is 9. I should have been more specific, he is not a puppy.

You just have to be stern and determined. Everytime you see him go after them, tell him NO! It will take some time, but he'll get the hint that they are not his toys.

Although not a guarantee, patience and time sound like the only remedy. When the younger dog gets older and settles down, maybe he won't be so rowdy. Maybe the animals will have to be separated occasionally. In the meantime, you'll just have to moderate and exercise a lot of patience. Good luck to you and the dogs and cats.

i know excatly what you mean. I myself have 1 dog, 2 parakeets (budgies), 1 turtle, many goldfish, and is thinking about a cat. my sister, who is a vet, helps me care for all my pets. She says that when their is a new addition you should add them in really slow so they get used to each other. Maybe you should block off a room just for the cat and kitten, and feed them in a different area. It might just work.

You have to train him! When my I first got my puppy, she chased the cats. I would yell "NO KITTY!" every single time she went after them, and now she doesn't even try. When she sees them, she just lays down. Works like a charm. You can also try a squirt bottle in conjunction with the "NO KITTY" command if needed.

Your dog is just playful and the kittens might learn to enjoy playing with him. If they don't, they will let him know with a couple of waps and He'll get the idea.

Everybody's gonna need time to adjust to each other. They'll all set their own boundaries. I wouldnt worry. They'll figure it all out in time. Dont worry about tryin to calm down your younger dog. The cats will put him in his place soon enough LOL (Nobody will get hurt dont worry)

He will settle down as he gets used to them and they are no longer new. Also, cats are pretty good at getting away from dogs when they want to.
