The "battery light"is a warning light that shows that there is a problem in the charging system. It could be something as simple as a loose belt or bad electrical connection. It could also be a bad alternator, or bad battery. If you do not know much about cars, take it to a qualified mechanic and have them check it out!

Without actually seeing the car, and doing a few simple tests, I can not tell you what the problem is!

The battery light generally comes on when the alternator is not putting out the proper charging voltage. Start by checking the alternator. If your battery is over 3 years old, you might want to consider replacing it.
