I actually work at a RL in upstate NY. Some of the answers are right. RL will attract more customers that can not tip in comparison with the outback. There are pros and cons to both. A guy I work with actually left RL to go to Outback. Within 3 months he was back to RL. Again for the summer, he went there to do both, he has now again put his 2 week notice in at Outback, just because he didn't want two jobs. However, though he chose RL over Outback.
Here are some of his complaints at outback:
-Ticket time at outback.
-It is hard to turn tables. The food takes longer to cook, and the system they have in place makes it take longer.
-People he works with; which will be different for everyone obviously.
At RL he can turn his tables faster, which in turn gives him more tips. He came back to RL because he could make more money. He did say on average he got better tips at Outback, but less tables.
All of this is highly dependent on the area you live as well though! Good luck! I'm sure either will be fine. Working part time as a server is a good way to get extra cash.

i would pick Outback, As a consumer my experience at outback has been more favorable and found the price per meal quite a bit higher. Plus, outback never has like all you can eat prwn fest or those crazy specials. My understanding is though that the outback in my area requires like a 'totaly team' atmosphere where your expected to work as a server/hostess/ or whatever. That's why i didn't want to work there. You can always just try it out for 2 weeks or so and decide since it's extra money and not your primary income.

Well, it depends on your area. I would think a Red Lobster on the coast will bring in more people, when in the mid-west, Outback would.
Personally, I would go with Red Lobster. I worked at Outback, and hated it. The management there was horrible. But each Outback has a different proprietor, so your experience I'm sure will be different.
Hope this helps!

I've worked for Outback for 6 years and it's been pretty profitable. There is always a wait and the guests usually have high expectations of the servers, and they're usually willing to tip accordingly. There are people that have been waiting tables there for 10 years without any complaints...it's a pretty good company to work for as far as I can tell! The prices are most likely higher than Red Lobster so that also makes your tip percentage larger. Try it out!

Definitely Outback. Red Lobster and Olive Garden both have a reputation for being nicer than they actually are. Outback's price per meal is going to be higher than Red Lobster, you're going to get a better clientele too.
I worked for Olive Garden, which is managed by the same company, Darden. I know they do have fairly good benefits, cheap health insurance, so if that's something that might benefit you, you could consider that too.

I would think you would average higher tips per table at Red Lobster but you will likely have greater alcohol sales and higher table turnover at Outback with a more laid-back atmosphere if you like that. I'd probably pick Outback so that I didn't have to dress up so much.

R Longo is right. Certain ethnic groups tend to prefer seafood over steak and that group is notorious for being horrible tippers. Outback has higher quality food and you will get better clientele there than at Red Lobster. Plus, if you work at Red Lobster plan on coming home smelling of seafood after every shift. Go with Outback.... better all around.

Outback - there's a downward spiral happening at Darden restaurants in general and Red Lobster in particular. I just sold off all my stock.
