Your period may come back right after the shot, or it could take up to a year.
Immediately after depo I went on Kariva to ensure I get some type of period back.

I was on depo for 2 years until I read up on the "horror stories" about the side effects. I went right back on schedule after stopping it. However, I don't believe I can have children anymore, because of it. Every one is different and will react differently. I guess you have to detox it from your body and that can take up til a year or so. Good luck!
