Okay, added detal: It isn't the glow plugs. I've already checked that.

Someone mentioned a control head. Would my truck have that? And could that be the problem?

How are the glo-plugs?
I have this diesel too, and was told when I bought it to be sure to wait until the dash light goes out before cranking. Even one time can cause a problem and they will need replacing.

Usually a 7.3 doesn't eat glow plugs, they usually burn the relay out. On top of the engine there are 2 relays mounted over the passenger side valve cover, inspect the rear relay, I think you will find the large terminals will be brown or black not bright copper colored, this is because the internal resistance got to high causing heat build up and burning the contact so the glow plugs don't come on even though the light on the dash says they did.

Something else you might want to check is your oil pump or check valve in the injector pump. If it takes a minute for the oil pressure to build after you get it started, try this. Open the plug on the top of the injector pump and use a screw driver as a dip stick to check the oil level in the reservior. That reservior has to be full of oil for the injectors to receive the signal to fire. It is there to shut the engine off if it runs out of oil. I had one do this to me, it was a pain in the butt.

i would either suspect the glow plugs or injection. you might consider having your injectors mapped. this should tell if there might be blockage, check your fuel filter as well. would condier the fuel pump as the last thing, but i seriously doubt that the problem.
