I don't understand how she can look to be 45 and just completed her intern year of her residency then have her half sister who looks to be 25 start her intern year the next year after Meridith.

I know Ellen, TR, and Sandra are old as heck in real life but at least with Christina there's the back story of her having her PhD so she'd logically be a little older than her colleagues. But what the heck is up with Meridith? Did I miss her back story? Are she and her half sister only a year apart? Was Thatcher having an affair too?

yeah i thought that was weird too. her parents got divorced when she was five and i guess her dad didn't waste any time getting remarried because when molly (mer's half sister) was admitted in season 2 im pretty sure she said she was 24 or 25 and that kind of makes sense because i think most of the interns are like 29 - early thirties. but like i said he must have been really quick in meeting susan and having a baby. it's weird. oh and btw i'm like 99% sure that she only went to europe for like 2 months because then she came back b/c her mom was diagnosed with alzheimers and that's when she decided to go to med school. i guess to make her sick mom happy or something.

1. She does not look 45

2. Her character is supposed to be 29 the same as Christina, Izzie, George and Alex.

3. The PHD back story means nothing.

4. There is no understanding how Lexie could be in the new class of Surgical Interns. That is absurd but I am not the idiot who has to explain it. She has to be at least four years younger than Meredith unless you find out Thatcher was cheating on Ellis at the same time she was cheating on him. There is no way that girl should be in that class. Not to mention Susan just died in that hospital and there is no way they would ignore that fact. You don't hire the daughter of a woman that just died in your hospital especially when the deceased's husband blames the hospital for her death.

5. The Attendings are the ones supposed to be in their forties.

6. Unless the girl is a genius. They have some serious explaining to do.

In one of the flashback sequences once, her mom was all mad at her because she decided to take time off of med school to go to Europe. I don't believe they ever actually said how long she went to Europe for, but it could have been a few years. Med school is about 4 years long, so if she graduated from college at around 22, as it can be assumed, then went to Europe for maybe 4 years, then went to med school, that would put her graduation from med school sometime around when she was 30. In real life she's 38, but she's supposed to be playing someone younger. We know this because Addison is supposed to be around 40 on the show, and she gets all mad in season 1 that her ex has taken up with a younger woman. But I think she looks sort of old too!

As for her back story, her dad Thatcher supposedly divorced her mom after finding out about her mom's affair with the chief of surgery, and it seems to me like Meredith was a teenager when that happened. So presumably Thatcher married the second wife soon after his divorce and had his other daughter, who is probably around 25 or 26, since that is how old most surgical interns are when they begin their residency.

they got divorced because Meredith's mom chased him away, she didn't want him around anymore...
