its not my cat, and the fleas seem to be in only my room. i stayed up till 5 am last night trying my hardest to clean it, then woke up at 8 to have another go. would it be toxic to stay in the house if i bombed only my room?

Oh dear.
Yes, there is a way to get rid of fleas without calling an exterminator: I've done it several times. I don't recommend using a bug bomb, tempting though it is.
1)Wash your curtains and bedding in water as hot as the material will tolerate.
2) While you're doing that, sprinkle your room and furniture with Borax and let it sit about 20 minutes, then vacuum it up. Don't forget to sprinkle and vacuum under things.
3) Keep vacuuming every day for at least 2 weeks. That way you will get newly-hatched fleas and flea eggs.
Good luck!

You need to get the works...Get flea powder and sprinkle it EVERYWHERE it could take several bottles. Then you need to get flea collers for any animals cause if they cant go on the floor they are going to go to the next thing...then bomb the place every room. It could be very expensive for a large house...your best bet ultimately might just be an exterminator, considering the project you are going to be getting yourself into. Think about it one area you don't spray or bomb you just wasted all that money you spent on everything else...

If you have no pets or small children use a fogger. Wash all bedding and spray the mattress. Fleas are pretty easy to get rid of but you will probably want to follow up a few days later with more bug spray. Sometimes any eggs they leave survive the initial treatment. A second attack after a few days will get any stragglers and new hatch-lings.

It depends on the size of your house. In an apartment, I set a bug bomb according to its instructions then left the house, taking my pets along. I then went back in and immediately vacuumed the carpet and furniture, then took the vacuum bag out of my apartment to the trash immediately. I did this for three Saturdays in a row then the fleas were gone. If you have a big house you'd probably need to set of more than 1 bug bomb.

Put all bedding in a hot wash, hoover the matress (pay particular attention to the edges) and use a flea prep (get from your vet) spray around the house - read instructions first!

my dog had fleas real bad .. get a big plate. put soapy water in it.. put it on the floor and get a light and put it over it... leave it like that at night and you'll see in the morning that the fleas drove in the water thinking it was a cat or human.. it helps...but you have to treat the cat with something that gets rid of the fleas like that stuff for the dogs.

I hate bug bombs. to me they are very toxic . I always get a headache from smelling the stuff. I would get sevendust. You can sprinkle it on your carpet ,floor ect.You can spread it around your yard. Its also safe for your cat. I use it for bugs in my garden. It does work for alot of critters espeacially FLEAS. GOOD LUCK
