You may not agree but I find that many Catholic here in Philippines are Catholic by Birth rite only, it is all they know because Papa & Mama were and Lola & LoLo were and because they were baptized a Catholic.

In the Catholic Faith it is written that to enter another Church it is a sin, many Catholic Priests teach that while others do not.

By going to a cell group at some ones home, the people are not entering another Church so they can do so without feeling they have sinned.

Many of the younger Filipino Catholics are venturing into other waters whether it is because of loss of faith or just to question athurity (as many young people like to do) or just to be with friends, they are finding that they like what they have found in other places.

And it is becoming more and more common to see a house filled with people for (born-again) Bible Study or Service and 90% of them will be Catholic.

By the way "James" is right, the fear of hurting family is very strong here in the Philippines. And there are more "undercover" born-again then you might think, but they don't want to hurt the family or be put down by their family.

I'm not sure what you mean by "cell" groups, but Catholics are Christians so I don't see where the harm would be if they prefer a Praise & Worship service. Perhaps there isn't a nearby Catholic church or maybe the people are not fond of the pastor and still want to attend a service.

From what I know, some people frown at going to born again worship services for the very reason that the term 'born again' have let us say, not so very good connotations. And you can just blame that on certain born again groups and people who claim to be born-again but are in fact bogus.

And so some people are so afraid of going to those services that they get shocked when they have heard that so and so have gone to one and are afraid that so and so might be brainwashed or worst converted. -- por dios por santo, susmarhosep,... kaawaan ka ng dios... ipagnonovena kita...

And from personal experience, Catholics attend mass & Born Again Christian attend their own, in their own church. Jevohahs Witnesses have their own as well, so as 7th Day Adventists, Mormons, INC, so on and so forth.

If a Catholic would go to a Born Again service they would probably not tell someone else that they did. And would probably not tell someone else how uplifting and liberating it felt when they did.

And yes, I do know a lot of secret agent born-again christians who still claim to be catholic but are undercover born-again christians and are afraid to come out for fear of being ostracized.

There's nothing wrong with Catholics attending a Christian praise and Worship. Maybe he's just listening to the bible reading. In any case, it is his prerogative. I have seen Catholic friends attend and listen to Bible readings just for the purpose of it, let them be. Its a free country.

They are normal people. :)
Kidding aside, I prefer Catholics to attend a Christian praise and worship to review and renew their faith, to add more vigour for the love of God (Praise and worship songs truly rock) and at least ,its a respite from listening to a priest.
Although ,you might be tempted to join the Christian faith(its really charismatic) but at the end, it will be your own choice/decision. Religion doesn't save the person, God does.

Those groups are called cliques. Cliques are often formed by insecure people whose primary purpose is to hang around like-minded people who share their same viewpoint about others who do not belong in the clique.
