If she is found alive will she just be given back to her parents? or will social services take her into care?

This is just a thought that came into my head while reading some of the many Maddy questions on here. Everyone wants to see her back alive and well, but what happens then? do they just hand her back to the people that caused this or what??

For the record, I don't hate Kate and Gerry, I don't care either way about them. I do know that if it was some else's child they probably wouldn't get them back with out a fight once the had been found.

Your thoughts on this.......

Honestly this is the toughest question thus far I think...I don't know the ins and outs of the UK foster system but the US one well it really sucks. There are many wonderful people out there who are foster parents because they have a heart for it but there are many who do it for the money and take horrible care of these kids. SO SO many children live in Foster Care or state run group homes because so many don't want to adopt anyone but infants so therefore this is a tough one for me.I can only give a hypothetical answer to this question because I am the one that thinks there are other things that could have caused her to go missing outside of abduction but if she was infact abducted...and alive...she is missing her mommy so much right now. More then any of us could have imagined..she is missing her siblings, her bed, her toys her backyard and yes even her daddy She would be going through He** no matter what has happened to her because she is not old enough to understand why this is happening so no I don't believe she should be taken away from her parents if indeed she was kidnapped by a stranger. I do however think the parents should be held accountable in some way. I feel they should be monitered by social services for a long time. I believe the should serve community service and be forced to give any money collected the National Center for Misisng and exploited children. As well they should have to take parenting classes. I think that Kate should quit her job and become a stay at home mom with no Nannys. I can honestly say that If she was taken as a result of her parents leaving her alone that they would likely not do it again. Well at least Kate unless she does not have unconditional love for her children that the majority of mothers have. Madeleine could be placed in Foster Care and seperated from her siblings only to never see them again..she could end up going from home to home her entire life and end up with some deadbeat foster parent who really does not give a crap about children just the paycheck each month and the foodstamps. So as I said this is really a tough question to answer.

IF she is found alive and well (i truly hope so) charges cannot be brought against the parents as the crime was not commited in the UK however; Social Service should take a keen interest and place the family under a supervision order and make it mandatory for Kate and Gerry to attend parenting classes.

People are under the misconception that Social Services whip children away from their parents at the first sign of trouble. This is an urban myth. Removing children from the family home is the last and final resort for Social Services once all other avenues have been exhausted unless the child is in immediate danger.

So yes, she will go back to her family, who will hopefully have learned their lesson and will take better care of their children.

What I would like to know is how they will explain to her why they weren't there to protect her.

Of course she will be returned to her parents when she is found. Where else would she go?

I have worked with Social Workers enough to agree with the poster who points out that Social Services are not on a hair trigger to whip kids away from their parent's care. It is the last resort as it should be. It is a child's right to live with their parents unless there is an overwhelming reason for them to live elsewhere. After all she has been through, why would anyone deny her this right?

Perhaps they will be spoken to by Social Services - who might act out of a desire to be seen to do what is expected as much as for any other reason - and perhaps not. There is absolutely no credible (note the word) evidence to support the idea that she was not perfectly well cared for by her parents.

If Madeleine is found, i believe she should be returned to her parents. They would have learnt their lesson the hard way by now & would never ever leave her unattended again. Also, for those who feel that she not be returned to her parents, can you try & understand how much she must miss them? After the horror of being snatched, you righteously feel that she should be separated AGAIN from her family? They let her down by leaving her unattended but that doesn't make them any less her parents. I agree to some extent to Mrs.G. The McCanns could be charged with neglect & monitored to ensure cases like this are deterred from recurring.

This has been the question from day one. Why aren't they clutching at every straw? We know that the hoaxers come out of the woodwork at this stage of any investigation. The McCanns are running a publicity campaign, so why don't they accept that the likelihood of hoaxers will happen?. Why don't they just go out and search thiis area for themselves. They certainly ha ve the money to pay for all the gizmos. But they haven't hired a first class international firm of detectives have they. They are looking for a PR guy, aren't they?

I think that if Madeleine is found safe and well (hopefully) she'll be returned to her parents. They're too high profile now and know too many people in high places.

Although the twins haven't been left alone since this has happened, they're still away from their parents and with other people for the majority of the day. Two years is still very young. When they ever return home to the UK, I assume that the nanny will carry on where she left off and parent them, if she isn't doing so already at their private villa.

Very, very sad - going through all that trouble to have three beautiful children and then not wanting to cherish every moment with them.

Worryingly, the McCanns still show no signs of regret or remorse so I hope that all 3 children would be placed on an At Risk register and a close eye kept on them.

being very reluctant to contribute to Mccann questions. i thought I would have a say on this one. I beleive that due to such high profile of the case, she will be given back to the parents BUT their life will have to be lived completely differently with millions of security measures surrounding the whole family. Maybe even a change in identity? who knows.

Usually a child would be placed into local authority care, but since this is little Madeline and there are connections to Gordan Brown, she'll be back with "Mama and Papa"! Does anyone know anything about the twins?

Very tough question. I don't think Maddy should be brought back to the McCanns she could be neglected again.
