Why is it that the human rights activists see human rights violation when criminals and militants are caught and interrogated, but are happy to look the other way when dealing with the suffering of the innocent victims?

Nobody is looking the other way or are happy about innocent victims.

Defendants deserve a fair trial and if convicted just punishment.

When we deny the accused the right to a fair trial we wind up punishing the innocent along with the guilty. Because without a fair trial the wrongfully accused are wrongfully convicted.

Or in the case today, just held indefinatly without any determination of guilt.

Those who are guilty should be punished, but punishment without a fair determination of guilt IS PUNISHING THE INNOCENT VICTIMS.

Well, because "the victims deserve it" and the poor criminals are victims of society.

In other words, i am clueless, but i share your frustration.
I guess these people (usually leaning toward the farthest side of left) think that criminals deserve another chance (to kill more people) and the poor terrorists don`t have enough weapons (except nukes, bombs, gas) to attack real soldiers - so children and elderly will have to do.

Human Rights Activists (and any other one sides ideologic fanatic) are a menace to civilized society.

Religion? Fine - but keep it for yourself.
Environment? Cool, but don`t tell me what i can / cannot do.
etc. etc.

Good luck finding an answer.
You`ve earned a star.
