We have a BIG policy about safety issues at work so we have to wear our hair in a bun and no rigs, no necklessess no anyhting that may get caught in the convier belt, BUT these other girls can wear there tubins and dadgers(knife) on her waste because its in there religion, also they dont wear proper uniform, they wear there long dress that looks like a table cloth. How is this fair?? Im not religious but I am catholic and i wastalking to my superviser about it and asked why i had to take my cross neckless off since it is in my religion and these other girls can get away with dagers and turbins. He said thats just the way it is. How is that fair,,,,,, I belive rules are rules at a work place and nobody shouyld get "special" treatment PERIOD!

I know its safe for me to work there and not for them if they can wear all that crap, but thats not my issue, bringing a knife to work i dont agree with as well people getting special treatment cause the buisness thinks its best to comply with them instead of getting nailed with discrimitation that they threaten the buisness with. As far as I am concerned I feel like I am getting discrimiated against and i really don't want to put my job at risk to ***** about this bullcrap there. I guess i just wanted to vent and see if I am overreacting about this topic. I don't feel safe with somebody carrying a knife at work.

Life isn't fair but the decision to make allowances for these other women was probably made for political reasons. If one of these religious accommodations is involved in causing an accident OSHA will come in and slap a fine on them for unsafe practices and there won't be any difference any more. Until then I am sure nobody wants to get involved in that issue because it can only cause problems. Sorry

Safety rules should trancend any religious or any other cultural idioms. If the rule is no loose clothing and nothing that hangs, then that applies to ALL people and ALL clothing. Unfortunately, with the PC way things are and how worried everyone is about offending others these exceptions are made. My suggestion is tell your boss that your religion dictates you wear your cross at all times and thus you will do so or sue. When he says you can't contact a laywer. The way things go in america, if you do this and alert the media about discrimination of someone who "believes in the one true god" under whom our country was founded, you will own the company and can make and enoforce the rules you feel are appropriate.

you, my friend, are suffering from discrimination in the workplace. If the other women are allowed to dress in order with their religion, you should be allowed as well.
The safety issues are valid, however if an exception is being made for one religious group, the law states that all groups should be given equal treatment.
Got to Human Resources and file a discrimiation complaint. What they are doing is illegal.
Good Luck.

it is not fair. If you want you can take it to court. Realize your job isn't protected so you may find yourself unempolied even if you win.
On the other hand assuming you have a genuine safety concern you could always contact your countries work safety review board.

True. And for safety, it should apply equally to all, and it should hold up in court. I think if the issue were pushed, it would stand. This is an example of someone being afraid is all.

Yeah, but look at it this way.....they will soon be off your shift(on the way to the hospital). They also havein the Canadian police force, that they can wear their turbans. (now, I don't know about you, but that makes them a target in a gun fight...so much like the video games) Bright, they are not.

They are the ones that are less safe. So you are complaining that your company keeps you more safe than some people? That's one right I don't have to have. My company wants me to be more safe than some others, I will thank them.

It's the employers business, they set the rules. You may not like them, but the people who own the place have their reasons.
You can always show how unfair it is by voting with your feet and finding another job.

I don't think that you are objecting because you fear for their safety. So, if it were me, i would feel sorry for them because they might die if their clothes were caught in the conveyor belt.
