The problem is not your monitor.

You must obtain the display drivers for your video adapter.

If it's a name brand computer like Dell, HP or Gateway, you can go to their website to the support section and download the appropriate drivers.

If it is not, you must open your computer and find the make and model of your display adapter and search for the driver on the internet.

Windows 98 never installed the graphic drivers. If you go to device manager - Shortcut - press the 'Window's flag key' and Pause/Break key at the same time. This will bring up System Properties where you can click the device manager tab. You will see either a yellow ? or ! next to the graphic adapter.
I do not know if your graphics are onboard or a video card nor who the manufacturer is.
Download Belarc advisor (free) - will tell you your motherboard manufacturer, etc. - giving the information you need to go the manufacturer's web site to get the drivers.

Windows 98 is an older version. There may be need to load software driver to Video Graphic Acceleration (VGA Driver). Use motherboard CD and load VGA Driver. After proper install VGA driver software all colors will show.

Why did you replace ME (that bit I can understand) with Widows 98 (Out of the frying pan . . .)

You need the video drivers for your video card/chipset. Try the system manufacturer's web site or the video chipset manufacturer's site.

Finding support for 98 is going to be patchy though. I would strongly advice getting rid of Windows 98 and put WIn 2K Pro or XP-Pro on there. Much more stable, much better function and much better support. Should be <$!00 for an upgrade version.

All Windows 98, ME, 95 are now old monitors and are discontinued. If you have bad color then ur color card in ur computer is wearing out. If you can't find a new color card, buy Windows XP, Vista, or Imacs. Thats the only computers that are sold in stores now.

This is because you have downgraded you should be able to get the necessary drivers from Microsoft update.
