The Tanach (which includes the Torah - the Five Books of Moses) offers a combination of human history with a dose of embellished story-telling to get points across.

The fact that the Tanach (or, as you would call it, the Old Testament) is still a viable book worth reading validates its value.
It is timeless.

Do I believe that ALL the stories in the Tanach are absolute truth?
Well, I admit that I am skeptical.
But someone recently offered a unique viewpoint.
Listen up!

Imagine that you are living in the future.
Say, a thousand years from now.
And you read an old story that told of a giant wave which crashed over the land, killing hundreds-of-thousands of people.
You probably would think that the story was make-believe, wouldn't you?
After all - who could imagine a giant wave of water?
And so many deaths?

We know there really was such a giant wave, in December 2004.
But a thousand years from now, the way stories change hands and are re-interpret throughout history, you can see how people in the future might seem skeptical of such an event.

I think it is so amazing that no matter how much some humans try to show others there is no God, there is more and more proof from science and archeology that points towards there being a divine creator.

I can't believe that some people choose to believe that there is no God. I mean, if you look outside and see all the stars and mountains and trees and oceans, it is hard for me not to think of God.

Thats just my take on it all. Good article.

I have never doubted the authenticity of the Old Testament, especially the historical books such as Jeremiah, but this is simply a small piece of evidence for a small portion of the scriptures.

Its discovery reinforces my faith, but I was already fairly secure in it.

One among many examples is the fact that for many years the existence of the Hittites (a powerful people who lived during the time of Abraham) was questioned because no archaeological digs had uncovered anything about them. Critics claimed the Hittites were pure myth. But today the critics are silenced. Abundant archaeological evidence for the existence of the Hittites during the time of Abraham has been uncovered.
