Its the easy way out. Unfortunately, nothing comes easy. The Muslim faith teaches violence, and until more of its leaders speak out against acts of terrorism, we should treat it as a violent religion.
I agree that in this PC world that we live in, the one religion that we can not insult, is Islam. Everything else is okay.
The fact is that 99% of the worlds terrorists are Muslim. That us why, when it comes to screening people, I do believe that you need to profile.

Terrorist and criminal is almost the same. Only terrorist is more powerful and worse than a criminal. Gordon Brown is a quite man and is conservative, so he is careful as to how he chooses his words.
I am a Muslim and I do condemn such acts. There is no point of comparing such crimes to a particular religion.
Muslims do fight terrorists, such as what is being seen in Pakistan's Lal Masjid. Those delutional madmen must be dealt with seriously.
At the same time, I do not support some of Bush's Middle East policies. Especially Iraq.

Although I hate to admit it, Brown's right on this one and we're the ones up for criticism. For him to label them terrorists is to imply at government level that they are creating an atmosphere of terror/fear/unease among the population. No matter whether that's correct or not, no government can afford to be seen to admit to it on the world stage.
Brown is therefore right to apply the distinction, but I think he could have tried to find another word as he's now insulting everyone who has ever committed an illegal act - from bank robbery to driving in an unroadworthy vehicle.
"Cowardly murderers" would possibly have been a better choice.

They are wannabe terrorists that's why, they can't do the job to be called terrorists. The term terrorist would imply they have us all terrified - but we are not, we stand together united against them and continue our lives! As for not calling them muslims I don't blame him, their religion is irrelivent - it's the acts they have done and not their religion that has done the damage, most muslims are as outraged as any other person would be, let us not forget that.

Why does he need to call them Muslims? They're also people, with two legs and one head, but he doesn't call them that either. Everybody knows they're Muslim. But since most Muslims aren't terrorists - and those are the ones who are the key to defeating terrorism - what's wrong with focusing on the crime of terrorism instead of the religion?

Calling them terrorists gives them a justification for what they do. Calling them what they are, criminals, shows us that he considers them to be nothing more than cold blooded murderers without a cause or reason for what they do. I applaud this
