Fox and CBS networks recently refused to broadcast condom advertisements. Had they somehow missed the memo that there are 19 million new cases of sexually transmitted diseases (STD) each year or that HIV and AIDS are now the leading cause of death among black women between the ages of 25 and 34?

When women have the power to choose when they conceive, they also have the power to lead healthier, more effective lives.

Approximately 750,000 American women between the ages of 15 and 19 get pregnant each year.

By contrast, in the Netherlands, contraception is openly advertised, and their teen pregnancy rate is 1/9 that of the United States.

Isn't it time we got with the program?

Thank you for all your opinions ~ you're entitled to them.

However, my POINT was that the Netherlands OBVIOUSLY seem to be doing something right about teen pregnancy. They put much more focus on the PREGNANCY than the sex. Now, if the sex issue is what's messing us up, then we need to come to grips with reality.

"Abstinence" is not working; at least not as we would like it. Then let's be wise enough to do a little "damage control" and conduct comprehensive sex education!!!

You need to educate kids.

By saying no kids wont not have sex, you need to teach yes they should wait but if they choose not to you can be protected by a condom.

Learn to accept kids are and will be having sex and most will not know about condoms. Condoms should be widely discussed. Parents, Teachers, TV shows, Friends, Pamphlets the internet everywhere.

Kids NEED to know they can protect them selves. Saying 'abstinence is key' is not working. If it was there would be no need for condoms. Its like having a wet paint sign, does that stop 95% of people touching the paint? no.

I think the TV channels should be charged with negligence if they have shows aimed at 10 - 21 year olds then they are responsible for educating them, if they cant do that then they should be switched off.

Make condoms a part of life so a. kids use them and b. kids are not afraid of going into a store and buying them.

The first issue is not knowing about them and then the second is being too embarassed to go and buy them. How many people do you know who wont just go buy condoms because there embarassed? I know heaps.

No, it isn't. There are millions of kids out there that don't have parents to teach them right and wrong. They learn by what they watch on TV. Abstinence is the best policy. I will NOT support any television show that openly advertises condoms as the way to protect.

While people may not agree with certain decisions networks make, the owners of the networks have every right to choose which products to advertise and which to refuse.

They probably don't want to encourage kids to engage in pre marital sex. Condom ads encourage that.

At the same time, it is important schools and parents alike should teach children about ethics of sex. Its important to balance everything so that people don't get the wrong ideas.

The safest thing to do is say no to pre marital sex.

yes it is...as aer_rn said...many kids dont have good gaurdians/parents to teach them right from wrong so we might as well teach them that if they are gonna run rampant and hump everything of the opposite sex they might as well use a condom and cut down on std numbers and unwanted pregnancy numbers...

Maybe after 10pm when the younger kids are in bed. I dont believe condom ads are really the save all here....is there really that many ppl that dont know about aids and how to prevent it? come on...its a choice...ppl choose not to use them, not because they dont know about them or how they work.

That's because Fox news watchers don't need condoms. They need viagra first.
