If you plead "no contest", you are accepting the charges against you but not implicitly expressing guilt. Pleading "not guilty, is stating that you did not do what you are accused of.

Not guilty means that you didn't do it. No contest means you are pleading guilty but that guilty plea cannot be used in a civil action against you should you be sued for something.

"No Contest" is neither a guilty or an innocent plea, but indicates willingness to allow the court to find as it finds without the defendant's input one way or the other.
For criminal records, etc., judges usually treat it like a guilty plea, even though there are times when innocent people use it if they don't have the time or money, etc., to fight a long legal battle.

They are the opposite, actually. "No contest" means you are not contesting the accusations. It is more or less, though not exactly, the same as pleading guilty.

Not guilty is asserting your innocence.
Pleading no contest is not an admission of guilt, but that you can't contest the prosecutions evidence and will most likely lose your case.
