The nerd is small humanoid creature looking comically like a thin cross Chester A. Arthur. Specially a foolish person.
A geek is a boring person, not fashionable and does not know how to behave in social situations.

A nerd isn't necessarily good for anything whereas most geeks are usually quite knowledgeable in one or more areas-- a computer geek for instance. Both are usually socially maladjusted.

They both have the same general meaning, someone really smart, but I think the word geek is used to describe a nerd, only much dorkier and antisocial.

first of all, the meanings are relative and somewhat uncertain. basically, though, a nerd is someone who learns too much and has no social value, and a geek is more of a smart person who has good qualities. NERD = SILLY LEARNER , GEEK = SMART PERSON ;-)
