For all of you CHUMPS out there, it is actually against the Computer Misuse Act 1990 to install a keylogger onto a personal computer, so by doing this, you will be breaking the law and that's a potential 7 year prison sentence.

Anyway if the computer is secure enough with good anti virus and anti spyware programs, the keylogger would be detected and deleted straight away.

I had learnt by 13 how to avoid detection while using a computer. There's no program out there that can't be quickly disabled by pressing ctrl+alt+delete. Same with internet history; any good cleaning program can erase the history in 1 second flat, so I'm afraid there's not really a viable option.

How can you break the law when installing a keylogger in your own computer? I wanna hack my computer, to see how secure it is? so what the feds are going to bust me because I want to test my security... lol yeah right - well i dont know the laws in US, but I live in UK and i have installed keyloggers on my laptop, desktop pc testing them out, and i had no problems. Its my own computer I can do whatever i want with it, even if its a family member computer, who purchased the computer in the first place considering your daughter is 13.

Also about the privacy thing, wtf you people on about - its his daughter she 13, when she reaches 18 or 21 (dont know those age rules) she has the right to her own full privacy, at this age she can have some privacy but not all...she's young she doesn't know whats out there.

As far as the question, well there are keyloggers which can log MSN convos, history, view the screen with screenshots - however there are also other software in google which log information in a computer, mainly aimed for cases such as yours. You can always design your own program which can log stuff, and cannot be shutdown unless the pc shutdown, but you need a good knowledge in programming.

So as far as the keylogger, the are RAT (remote administration tools) like Pro Rat 1.9 search google...that do not just record what is typed in but logs on msn, internet explorer history. In addition, sourceforge.net has a very wide range of open-source software (free) you can find RAT or other programs which can suit your needs. I would suggest a RAT tools rather than a keylogger, there is nothing wrong with an RAT tool some of them have built in features of a keylogger some dont.

ok ive used a parental control from comvigo.com, its a free download for 7 days as a trial, then its £20(uk). This program blocks IM, browsers, bebo, myspace etc, i tunes & through the options you can block any site you wish. I think you can limit content of im chats as well. I used this on my daughter, she had a seizure!!!! Threats of a total lockdown have made her more aware & better behaved. Do you really want to trawl through hours of IM chat & browsing habits when you can simply block what you deem unsuitable? The best bit of this program is it only appears on the administrator account so they have no access to see what you have done!! hope this is helpful

Depending on how old she is, it's not invasion - it's sensible monitoring of a minor's use of the internet (which is not all PG rated!), by a responsible parent.

There are a number of ways of doing this, keylogger is limited to keyboard use, won't show you what she's clicked on with the mouse. You also need something that tracks what sites she has accessed. Try www.download.com, or www.filehippo.com - lots of software on both.

One of the answers given is that a keylogger is limited to Keyboards. This is incorrect. The best thing for you to do without invading your daughters privacy is to Password Protect

Do you want your daughter to hate you ? think about it, if she find out that will be the end of her trust.

you can put a keylogger on the PC however if she runs a anti spyware program it will find the keylogger & she will know.

If i was you, i would talk to your daughter about your concerns & if the need be you can block certain sites, this way you wont lose a daughter & you might gain a friend.

Although I can understand why you'd worry about your daughter using certain sites or chat rooms, you shouldn't invade her privacy like that. You'd be better to speak to her and make sure she's aware of how to keep herself safe online. Make sure she knows never to give out personal details or never meet anyone she talks to online. There's been several campaigns on internet safety, I'm sure you could find some useful info if you Google it.

If you live in the United States, that will potentially throw you in jail for disabling an electronic security device, which is a federal crime under the DMCA. Land of the "free", and the home of the chumps!

I won't even get into the ethics of the situation.

i know some perants r always worried that their teenaged children speak to strangers or meet boys and girls that may be older than them, or that may be opening bad sites. u can just tell her not to add stargers to her messenger, or if u r a bad perant u can steal her e-mail password, and if u want to see if she is opening some bad sites, u can just open every site that is saved, they always get saved on a file that is called Temporary Internet Files or something, but remember, it's personal stuff, when i found out that my dad was reading my letters and dairy, i almost killed him
