I'm sure that a lot of these young men dont work because they dont seem to have any ambition or passion in what they want to do. I'm sure that in school there needs to be more emphasis on "whats out there."

I have always worked but struggled until i found out what I wanted to be. I'm now 26 and a construction manager and completing a uni degree by correspondence. When I was younger the jobs I did were pretty soul destroying only when I evaluated my life did things change. So don't worry there is hope it may just take him a while to get there.

we should go back to the system where if you havnt paid in you dont get benefits...its disgusting. me and my sister worked from the day we left school, and worked our way up. my brother has hardly done a days work and lives alternatively on the streets or at my mums sponging off her, he truly believes its her job to support him as shes his parent, god only knows why his head is so screwed up.

he is 29 this year and been on benefits since he reached adult hood. when i have worked all my life and never claimed a dime, i was incensed a few years ago when i broke my back and suffered the humiliation of having to ask for benefits, to be told i could have 5 pounds per week, because i got 250 maintence for my 2 kids!!! there is no justice, and i had to take myself and my broken back and get a new job only 3 weeks later.

why do young people think they should earn a high wage? why do they believe some jobs demeaning? a jobs a job and i would clean toilets to support myself if i had to. they need to grow up and be given a hefty dose of realism rather than pocket money and a nice warm parental home.

I really don`t know. There are 2 that live next door to me, one18 year old and one 17 and it looks like they have no intention of getting jobs at the moment. I`ve no idea where they`re getting their money from, the mind boggles `cos the dad is on incapacity benefit and their mum only works 20 hrs a week.

It is the "me" generation. He has been given everything and doesn't see why it should stop. It is not the government's fault it is your fault as a parent for not instilling a good work ethic in him from an early age.

There are no repercussions for poor behavior or poor performance. No one is responsible for their own actions. It is always someone else's job.

This is a nationwide problem. Wait until these " go getters" are running things. Oh what a country we will have.

c) If you do dumb brain dead jobs future emplyers only see you as that, looking at last few jobs... If you go from low pay brain dead job to similar job in serch of a proper one.

ie getting off ***. then they will reject you for job hopping.

oooh i know exactly what you mean my dear...BUT it isn't my son i am talking about, it's my partners son....and he's not that young, he's 35, he sits in MY house day after day whining about not having any money, sits with his feet on my furniture flicking through cookery channels whining about not having any money, eats my food, smokes my ciggies, whining about not having any money...but he has not actually got off his gormless **** and done anything about it....the reason why he calls to my place is because his father who lives just a few yards away will not wake up will he's ready and no matter who it is, he will not get up...his dad works late nights so he needs his sleep....SO i decided to not open the door to his son any more, because he comes round very early every day and i cannot stand listening to him crying poverty, my sons are way younger than him and the 3 of them have got great jobs and have had since they left school....my partners son is just lazy and expects everyone else to bail him out each time he's broke...i stopped doing this and i also told him that i am not his mother and to go sit in her house all day and bum off her....it worked, he does not come here any more....thank god...i can't stand him....

parents provide some income and make it too comfortable to leave home.
Because housing is so expensive parents feel sorry for them, they can always rent and share with friends.
But know we would hate to see our Angles having to start at the bottom.
How come that's how we stated and our parents stared , not good enough for them though !
Lack of money is no excuse I was on £25 per week learnt to manage my money could`nt have everything I wanted had to wait and save up.

because I believe so many teens now are not being raised with a work ethic . they need to start thinking about their future and if you are giving him money then stop and he might get the clue that he needs to get a job. good luck .

My son is 16 and starting college in September, but he is always complaining about having no money, and won't get off his ar*se to find a job. I'm sick of telling him to go and look for one but he says I'm nagging. His girlfriend works at weekends in a photo shop, I'm surprised they're still together. He likes to beg off me for money and even resorts to knicking my toiletries and deoderant, I'm getting sick of his idleness, and he's up till 4am and is still in bed now. I Agree with you.
