As I do not know the actual facts,I hesitate to give an informed answer. However, let us just agree that they are NOT children. The government is considering bringing the voting age down to 16,so they do not consider them children! If they are guilty then a dose of Ghanain prison will certainly make them aware of how horrible life can be and this is the same life they will be subjecting the people who buy the filthy stuff they were smuggling in end up having! All you do gooders really make me sick,no wonder this country has become a cess pool when you always find excuses for scum and their actions.Human rights are for the law abiding and if you choose to break the law then you should lose those human rights.

I'm in two ways about this:
1. they are only small drops in the ocean and by catching and sentencing them, the big dealers (the ones who do the real damage) are still free and can carry on doing what they are doing.
2. By the age of 16, you should know that smuggling drugs is illegal wherever you go and that you can be sentenced to a long time in prison. They should have thought of that.
My only worry would be that they will be thrown into a prison that is way way way below the british prison standards whilst there are real bad criminals here in Brittain (child molesters, rapists, murderers etc.) who are enjoying themselves in comfortable prisons. Their crimes are not on an even keel so I don't see why those girls should be put into those prisons, they could serve their sentences here, while we can send a couple of really hard criminals into a Ghana prison.

Yes if they were smuggling drugs lock them up, If they got away with it they would have enjoyed spending the money.
What about the parents, where did they think there kids were???
We should take a leaf out of other countries laws,Drugs kill and ruin hundreds of lives every day , People smuggling or selling them should get locked up for a long long time.

i haven't heard this story but what kind of parent lets their 16 yr old travel to Ghana, with a mate?????.
It scary to think of those children in such a nasty place, but if brought back home all they will get is a slap on the wrist. So i say make them do their time in a Ghana prison, you never know they may hate it so much that they don't break the law again.

If found guilty they may well be brought back to serve their sentences, as legally they are children. Also, Ghana is a member of the Commonwealth and there maybe agreements in place to cover the sentencing of minors of either Country whilst in the other.

No I think they should be brought back to spend their sentence in a British jail. I feel for any British people who have to go through prison sentences abroad, as foreign jails are much tougher than ours. They are only 16 after all and I expect they will be very scared. Their crime is a very serious one and should NOT be taken lightly of course.
I do not know the whole story so I am going to research it now.
