Alexandar Grahm Bell designed, something, can't remember the name -- but I think it turned out to be a popular invention. Although, I think his successors made more money on it than he did.
There a few "for dummies" books that give the basics of getting your invention/new service out to the public. That's the 1st step. 2nd step should always be consulting an accountant and attorney -- to set up your business (get you a Fed Tax ID), definitely set up an S-Corp, so you have very limited liability in case something goes wrong, etc.

"Designed something" is way too vague. Designing what? Clothes, car parts, flowers? Be clearer.
If you have ideas, that's great. If you don't think your ideas are good enough for the market, then keep thinking until you have some that you're confident with. Then consider looking to assemble a team. You're a thinker, not a risk taker, so consider getting a team together that involves a risk taker to take risks for you. If you find a risk taker without ideas, then you'll click perfectly because you both bring something to the table that the other needs for success.
So social networking may be the key to your success.

If you're not a risk taker, then avoid entrepreneurial work. I've started 5 businesses, and 3 were failures. I've designed 4 different things and only made money from 1.
But, my successes have been fantastic. However, without the failures and what I learned from them, I wouldn't have been successful.

Ask your friends or people you know well enough if I made this do you think people would "buy it"..
you never know unless you go and what you want to make could you market it locally ??
In life you have to take a risk, if you fail you learn and do something to make that loss better.
