This concept was first brought to my attention a few years ago in the film of the same name.

I now believe that when someone does a good deed for me or my family, instead of doing a good deed back to that person, I do a good deed for someone else. I always explain this to the persons involved so that they then have the opportunity of carrying it on.

Do you think this is a good idea, and, if so, why?
If not, why not?

That is an excellent idea!! You should have a National Pay It Forward Day, anyone can register anything, then spread a little kindness.

The same works with smiling, smile at someone who looks glum on the bus, it's infectious!

I love the movie and the concept. What a great way to leave a legacy and know that you have helped someone have a better day in their lives. From a Christian stand point, a great witness to the God that we so love and worship.

people do the same with bad things though... I think they should stop that first...

Something bad happens to them they take it out on some one else...... WTF...

rather see and end to that than everyone doing the pay it forward thing

It is a good idea. If everyone did it we would be living in Utopia.
Probably doomed to failure though because of our human weaknesses - what a pity.
