My computer turns off around the same time consistently. I turn the computer on and if left at the logon screen it usually stays on, but as soon as processes start up around the same time it shuts competely off. Is this a virus or a hardware failure ?

I am assuming you are using Windows XP here for this answer....

It's most likely a rogue application / unfinished installation / driver issue.

Try running it in 'Safe mode' (Keep bashing F8 during BIOS/Boot-up screen for menu), and once you have got into Windows.

Is this works, use the AutoRuns.exe program from www.sysinternals.com (now part of Microsoft) to disable Windows startup programs one at a time (Don't disable any Microsoft items, unless they are unnecessary)

If you are at all unsure about attempting this - take it to an expert.
