Unfortunately it is expensive. Pre-ban elephant ivory is still available for scrimshaw. Mammoth ivory, and teeth and tusks of various animals are also available. Even old piano keys. Here are some completed eBay auctions of "raw" ivory:

Check out this Ice Age Tusk #12; 61.5 lbs; 82 in
$8,600.00. Isn't it beautiful? The colors are minerals from the soil that leeched into the ivory during the 10,000 years, or more, it was buried. http://www.mammothivory.info/product_info.php?products_id=249&osCsid=79fda6ff9c70e32d52f6c123634f3ba4
The funniest, to me, substance used by the Inuit and European sailors for scrimshaw is oosik (walrus and whale penile bone)... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penile_bone
Some time in the future, the humans or whatever that inherit the earth will look as us as being primitive proto-humans and we will be condemned for our slaughter of our fellow sentient species such as whales, dolphins, elephants and primates. Sadly, we have reduced everything to a commodity to be sold, traded, used and discarded ... including other people.

RE:
Ivory, How much is it worth?
People kill elephants for ivory. It can't be worth that much? I don't know anything about ivory btw but I can't believe people would kill a whole elaphant for some ivory.

My,personal opinion is that, like everything in life.to me is worth nothing, except to see it were it belongs on the elephants.but to many is worth alot. the only reason people should have ivory is if the elefant dies by natural couse other wise leave it alone how would you like if people like in the amazon's or other wild country's like the head hunters cut your head off for a trophy. is it worth it !well to them it is to us is a criminal act.get me! is not like you need the dam thing to survive anyway
