There are, they are inventing a multitude of new inventions, it's just that they are not in the limelight, they are overshadowed by the plethora of other world news!

I think it depends on how you classify great? What is great to me may not be great to you? Isn't Biodiesel a great invention? How about the internet, the thing you are using right now. Isn't it a great invention? How about Hybrid cars? IPhone? Laptop computers? Cable and Satellite tv? Bypass surgery? Cell phones? Air conditioning? It is all how you look at it...Hope this helps.....
