I recently read this list of qualities for our president. Do you have any suggestions of what we should focus on?

I think our next president should have experience, be honest, be able to listen to the people and what they are saying and thinking, the ability to communicate with the leaders of other countries. He should have the ability to reason and not act rashly.

The single most important quality the next President should have is civility. Under the current band of oafs the quality of public life has declined into a culture of petty lies and vindictive payback.

This nation was built by people who disagreed, but still worked together for the public good. Until we as an electorate crushingly reject those whose partisan natures make compromise impossible we cannot rebuild what the Bush League has destroyed.

Since the Republicans will refuse to address this issue, the only choice will be a Democrat. Any Democrat. If he or she does not work to restore reason to the public debate we will get someone else.

(1) They need to play to our hopes--NOT to our fears. Invoking 9/11 or terrorist are out to kill us only plays to make people reactionary. When people react abruptly, they often do not take the necessary time to think through the consequences.
(2) They should have some moral compass--BUT not have to boast of their religiosity. The truely religious person is humble and takes a silent pride in his/her beliefs. Yet, is not ashamed and can profess them (but not simply to try to get the "Religious Right" vote).
(3) Someone who can reconnect the US with the world--DUE to a "You are either FOR us or AGAINST us" mentality, we have alienated key allies and drawn are credibility into question. Such mentality is fairly useless in a global economy (hence the reason we attempt SIX party talks with North Korea rather than attempt to confront them one-on-one).
(4) Encourages patriotism without constructing radical "nationalism". It is great to have patriotism (I love our country), but it is quite another to be arrogant (leave that to the French). I would much rather a president with calm confidence than one with loud arrogance.
(5) Transparency or, at least, the most transparency that can be provided without jeopardizing security. When you are acting rationally and ethically, you needn't hide or cover your tracks and can be more transparent (let people make their own judgment rather then not give ANY information).

Most of the article sounds like good council except when it comes to Objectivity
"To be politically objective means to not be religiously governed, undistorted from personal bias and emotion. We cannot have leaders guiding our country based on scriptures, preaching their viewpoints to the rest of the world from a personal, faith-based system."
Our Presidents need to be faith based, as the article says not to ram it down any ones throat but to use their faith when it comes to critical decisions.
