I was recently promoted and given a raise form hourly to salary, according to how they add up salary (ex.$ 40,000/2080) it isn't much. I was offered more than my salary hourly at another job (their competition) should i mention this to my job and see if they would match the pay or should i take the other job.

Depends on your boss. How is he going to react when you tell him that you have been speaking to the competition.

If he won't take it well, then don't mention it and go to the competition.

If you believe you are worth more to your current employer, you should request a raise on that basis. Pointing out what similar positions pay at other companies may be appropriate. I would not mention an actual offer unless I was seriously considering accepting that offer. You may find yourself without the option of staying in your current job.

hi, if my employee talked to me about the offer of other companies, esp. competitors, I would personally see this as a threat for pay rises. Unless you are so confident that your employer cant afford to let you go, than better not to use this strategy, its very risky. I would advise you not just looking at the pay, you should also consider the opportunity for promotion and career development. Who can give you a better future? Think carefully.

Wish you the very best!
