"Madeleine McCann's parents are learning Portuguese as they make plans for an indefinite stay in the country to continue the search for their daughter."

However much like the search for their daughter, they are only going to make a half hearted stab at it.

"They do not want formal lessons and are learning from locals with whom they have become friendly while attending church."

Oh yes, with this method, they will be speaking fluent Portugese in no time (and yes that was sarcasm you detected)

Who are they kidding ..........

(Whats portugese for 'When is my parole board hearing?')

Jack H - I will check it out.

Happy Murcia - Interesting. I wish the police would come out and say the McCanns cannot leave Portugal definitively as that would knock the halo right from off their heads.

Beth - You have a degree in criminology and believe that the parents are the LEAST likely people to be involved in her disappearance? Are you for real? Do you know anything about crime at all??

The only reason they can`t come back is because if they tried to leave Portugal as a family they would have to appear in front of the Portuguese authorities for child neglect issues,If they returned to the UK they would have the children put under an at risk register as a follow up to the Portuguese actions,They know this would all be played out to the worlds press and lose global credibility...They can only leave as Gerry has done singularly and not as a family, hence the need to employ the London law firm with 48hrs,their offices are at 1Hare Court London and they specialise in child law,,,

I also see a major review of the evidence is being carried out after re interviewing several of the 9 dinner guests,I assume they need to get the evidence as it really happened and not as the McCanns have suggested,,,I foresee an embarrassing development for the McCanns soon...

No, it doesn't look as if the McCanns are coming back soon.

I just got the biggest laugh of the day thus far reading bethlauraliar's little rant....thanks for that. Funny how when I studied Psychology & Sociology with Criminology as a minor at University, we never came across your thesis. I did come across many studies by far more eminent professors (clearly a million more times intelligent than you CLAIM to be) and extensive research which showed that parents or a close family member are actually THE MOST likely to be involved in child abuse cases.

P.S. Bet you didn't get top marks for sentence structure, spelling and grammar in that imaginary degree...love your ending....

'.......elvis is dead and we did go to the moon and no the USA goverment did'nt have anything to do with 9/11 as you people sounds like to pathetic idiots that fill their sad simple lives with this crap. .....'

What, are they actually going to start searching? The reason for this "indefinite" stay is because they know that the British people would be after them, not to mention the police and Social Services.
I am not a law student, but I would have thought the more closely related a person is to a victim, the more likely that person is to be treated as a suspect!

The Portuguese in the Algarve prefer to speak English so as to improve their speech etc.

The only time they would need to learn Portuguese is if they step out of the Algarve and go further North, where not so many people speak English. Then theres the problem of dialect and accent etc.

You do not need to speak Portuguese, other than perhaps "Bom Dia", Boa Tarde, Obrigard (morning, afternoon, thankyou)

So, to conclude, their time would actually be better spent looking for their daughter.

Your reference to the McCann's "half hearted" approach may be one of the reasons that I find this case so infuriating. They talk about doing things; they suggest they may join or become involve but their words are never followed by actions.

I realise now why I am so angry at them, it's because they are lazy. They were lazy before Maddy was taken (all they had to do was call the baby sitting service but that was too much of a bother). And now, with Maddy gone, they're like a couple of queen bees being taken catered to by the pool side. I was not impressed with their shuttle tour on a private jet sipping drinks in luxury that most of us will never experience.

I have grown weary of the poor me (please send money) role that Gerry and Kate seem comfortable playing. Now it's time for them to get angry; start yelling at the police, at their detractors and the press. Put the beach ball away and start searching the Spanish countryside. Start acting like concerned parents and less like second-class PR executives.

Come on guys! You can do it!

That the McCanns were not returning home to England is an old story. What on earth is your point? That they mustn't learn Portuguese from the locals? ...i would've thought that would be the best way to learn a language...the conversational way....If they did take formal lessons, wouldn't you all pounce on the fact that they were wasting the fund on such luxuries & shouldn've learnt from the locals...?
Look, theres stuff happening with their friends talking & Robert M. being questioned again. Lets await the pertinent facts (hopefully from BB2002) instead of nit-picking & trivialising the entire tragic issue with such irrelevant & spitefilled observations.

It is shocking that they can manipulate the situation as to evade action from social services ...

Just remember guys all the money which you donated to the find Maddie fund is being used to fund lawyers who are ensuring they evade charges which is shocking..

These people are calculated and only out for themselves and every day they are there they are spinning a web of deceit and are hiding .. surely they can be extricated ?????

the tragic family who are the McC's look like they jogging into a corner as of late. They are in for the long haul, and i suggested yonks ago that the Oligario one was not letting them return to the uk. Seems i was right. On the subject of learning the language, maybe a daily uk paper could reprint their "free giveaway learn a language in 7 days CD" and issue it to the family. Those boxed sets are mighty expensive nowadays................
