I think Seattle or Portland would be your best bet. Seattle's night life and food are great and its a great city to play in.

I was going to say Seattle too... or maybe Minneapolis?
Seattle's got lots of homeless people, though; especially in the central downtown areas - Pioneer Square. Seattle and its satellites have got casinos like whoa, but not much really that fits "ghetto'.

San Jose, Ca.
The downtown areas of most cities are ghetto. San Jose has spent the last 15-20 years renovating it's downtown area. It's really cool now!
