I will be honest... I have postpartum depression (and don't even try to say that doesn't exist because it most certainly does)
And it helps a lot to talk to a counselor about it, in addition to meds. I know not everyone feels better with therapy or drugs but, I do and I'm glad for it.
So, if you have ever seen a shrink (whether you felt like you needed it or not) did it help you feel better about your problems? Did you feel any kind of resolution/closure?

I have received some very good and very serious responses for this question... which I did not expect. I want y'all to know most everyone's response is great. But I can only pick one best... Perhaps I'll try to ask a more specific question in the future. Thanks!

Yes, I 've been to a shrink for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder after I was at a store while it was being robbed at gun point. It was one of the worst experiences in my life! All he would do is ask questions like "What makes you feel this way" and give me a prescription for Xanax. He didn't even try to teach me ways to calm myself down when I started to freak out. I had to go buy the book "Anxiety for Dummies"! He didn't really help me with my problems but between the book and the Xanax, I am doing better.I am still not 100% okay but at least I can go out without having a breakdown every single time that I leave the house. No, I do not have closure and I probably won't until those two men that robbed that store are locked up.

I had to see one when I was in elementary school, and I remember feeling calmed and relieved to go there. They let me draw something I think. I was in 1st or 2nd grade and I just didn't want to go to school - I don't know why exactly.
I wouldn't be surprised if I felt that I needed to see a shrink again sometime soon. I am now 22, and who knows lots of stuff can happen. So there's nothing wrong with going to a shrink - when you need help that's the wise thing to do. Otherwise you may do some very self-destructive and harmful things.

Oh yeah ... I've had everything. Psychiatrists, psychologists, neuropsychiatrist, therapists, etc. etc.
I have PTSD along with a traumatic brain injury. The person I was that day died, and I got his life and am doing the best I can.
Did therapy help? It was subjective. It worked for the purposes that it was intended. This doesn't make sense, but I will never get myself back. I have resolved that there will not be closure, but I have moved on.

A long time ago. I've found that more experience and wisdom seems to help more than a therapist unless the condition has a strong biological basis like postpartum depression.

Yes I have.
I have never felt resolution or closure because I cannot forgive someone who destroyed my daughters life.
Counceling helped me to get thru my days better, and was great for improving communication between my husband and I. That is a huge stress buster.

I had a break down and walked off my job without any income I sat at my home without any true friends. It cost me quite a bit but the local mental heath facility took me in at no cost to me what so ever and helped me get back to society and the real world we have to live in. I have been fine ever since with help from my friend the lexapro. ha. That was a year of my life.
hope you are okay..!

I have been. It didn't really help me. I get much better results from a life coach. They are much more interactive.
