I mean, just hypothetically speaking...
If I were to compile a book of poetry, (or another way?) what should I do with it?
Would I print it out and send it to a publisher? Would I print it out and send it to heaps of publishers hoping one likes it?
How would I find the best publisher?
How would I go about it all, How does it work?
I have no idea and am curious. Thanks

For a book of poetry - your only hope would be a small publisher who specializes in "literary" type works. Large publishers don't publish much poetry. Think about it - which sells more - a book of poems or the latest Dean Koontz high body count thriller? And because large publishers don't publish poetry, agents don't bother with it. They can't make money on what they can't sell. Try the small publishers in Writers Market. But remember to check any out with Preditors and Editors and Absolute Write Water Cooler Bewares and Background Checks before you send anything out. Pax - C

More people write poetry than read it. As a result, poetry books do not sell very well at all. Most of the poetry publishing is done by poets who start little presses to support other poets (often limited to publishing just their friends) and university presses devoted to keeping the art of poetry alive.
Even the most successful poetry books sell very few copies nationally. Unless you're interested in a career as a poet who teaches in a university (where the prestige of your publisher will matter), you might as well self-publish your poems to give or sell the books to friends or family. For poetry, friends and family end up being the extent of the possible customer base for most writers.

The best way is to find an agent that already knows the market, try this link for more info.
http://www.writers.net/agents.html
Beware of scams, a real agent never asks for any money to represent you, They make money by taking a cut of published work.

shouldn't you try researching this on google??? it takes a lot of time and energy to compile the answers to your questions. the fact that you're already taking shortcuts demonstrates your utter disinclination towards hard work, sweat and tears and perseverance--things you need in the publishing industry.
