It seems to me that we have become a nation that will protect their political party first and their country second. Is that the case? Is it a "Parties" fault we are where we are or is it because of politicians in general? Not just the War now, Look at our entire country and its condition.

Please, If you can't answer the question seriously, go some where else and play on your computer. This country has issues, and the people need to try to resolve them. I am just trying to find out whether people look out for the good of the country first or their political party.

An American, of course. I lean to the right, but have a strong distaste for both parties right now. When I see a Senate or House vote go almost straight down party lines, I know the system is broken. Think about. If you polled 100 Italians, would they all vote the same way? What about 100 tall people? Or 100 nurses? No, no and no.
Our politicians our clearly more interested in keeping their fat-*** cushy jobs. And that's all about party support and vote-garnering. After that, maybe they give the welfare of this country some thought, but it's a distant third.
Send a message: Vote out every damn incumbent in every election.

Family first, country second.
Parties are lead by the Presidents. If you've got a bad President, his party shoulders much of the blame. People do switch parties due to a bad president. Reagan Democrats come to mind, and right now appr. half of Republicans could vote for a good Democrat in 2008 unless the Republican Party distances itself from Bush, which will be difficult. Point being parties change, as do party loyalties.

I think its an inherent fault in a bi-party system. When people are really only faced with two choices, both of which are politicians (ha!), it creates a system that needs 'extremes' and 'moderates' within one party, rather than diversifying and giving more options.
Your first question is difficult to answer because there are many different opinions on what an American is, what patriotism is, etc. But quite simply, I'm a person first.

It seems as though most Americans identify with their political party first, just read all the crap on this site between you guys ! Seriously most of the world is sick of the US, aprt from a few strong Allies you have who are there regardless as long as you are. So why not just be American if you are and stop boring me on this site with all that Republican/Democrat crap, like anyone else could care whos in the White House, it will always be the same outcome and the US will always be viewed in the same light, with only a few true friends anyway, so get on with it already !
